How To: Lipstick That Lasts All Day

Posted by    |    July 25th, 2012 at 11:19 am

I can’t tell you how many pictures I’ve seen of myself where I thought, Why didn’t I just reapply my dang lipstick! So when I stumbled upon Glamour’s article about making your lipstick last, I was all over it. Amy Nadine, celebrity makeup artist to the likes of Lauren Conrad and Rachel Bilson as well as co-founder of, gave Glamour her guide to getting bold color that lasts all day.

Step 1: Apply your lipstick of choice or matte lip pencil over your entire lip area. I prefer tarte’s Lip Surgence or Tom Ford lip color.

Step 2: Blot with a tissue by folding it in half it pressing it between your upper and lower lips.  I’m sure a few sheets of Charmin would work just fine here.

Step 3: Grab a blending brush and smother it with loose or pressed powder (translucent works best) then totally mattify the entire lip area.

Step 4: Apply a second layer of lipstick. For serious precision, use a lip brush  (my favorite is from Estée Lauder).

Repeat all 4 steps and enjoy luscious lips that will stay picture perfect all night long.

Lauren Conrad’s Ballerina Bun

Posted by    |    July 3rd, 2012 at 1:15 pm

For the past 22 years I have sported the same hairstyle: blonde straightened hair. Nothing fancy. Occasionally I’d wear it in a pony tail if it was dirty, I worked out, or on the rare occasion that I rode in a convertible. But with the help of a New Year’s resolution and the ever-inspiring Pinterest, I decided to add a few new routines to my hairdo repertoire.

I attempted several hairdo endeavors, including the fishtail braid, which I still have yet to master, as well as some Game of Thrones inspired braids. The experience has not been easy and I have had many failures along the way, but there is one hairdo that I mastered immediately: the sock bun. It looks simple enough, but then again so did the others. I was constantly tormented by young girls I babysit who could do more intricate things with their hair at age 12 than I can at 22. But this one was different; it clicked. So I can say without a doubt that if I can master the sock bun, anyone can!

New Obsession: Hair Chalk

Posted by    |    June 28th, 2012 at 8:20 am

When I was a little girl, I considered myself a bit of a chalk connoisseur. My sister and I would create some pretty serious chalk art on our carport that could have rivaled Picasso. When I kissed my middle school uniform goodbye, I had assumed my chalking days were over, until I spotted a picture of Lauren Conrad’s adorable hair.

If you’re looking to add a little temporary color to your locks, hair chalk is the perfect investment. I only wanted to try it out for the weekend and it worked like a charm. The color stayed through the weekend and washed out completely on Sunday.

Lauren Conrad Does Holiday Style

Posted by    |    December 5th, 2011 at 3:26 pm

I’m totally transparent about my love for Lauren Conrad.  She’s stylish, savvy, approachable, and somewhat represents “every girl”.  She’s an entrepreneur who soared beyond her reality roots and found herself an inspiration for girls of all ages.  So, when her LC Lauren Conrad Holiday Collection for Kohl’s appeared, I have to admit that it made me pretty excited.  Not only are these outfits worth pinning on Pinterest (follow mine here), they are affordable, which is a major bonus this time of year.  I love that Conrad partnered with Kohl’s to come up with a fabulous mix of trendy and classic styles, all of which are easy to find at the dozens of Kohl’s stores in the area, or a mouse click away online.

*Notice that her “holiday colors” aren’t all red, green, gold, and silver. She’s chosen colors that will look fab all winter long, and those gray booties are to.die.for. And how does she make a chunky sweater look sexy and not bulky? Genius.

If you’d like to see a sampling of her new designs that have made my wish list, check out these photos.

She’s come a looooong way since “Laguna Beach“, don’t you think?

Wear This….Paper Crown

Posted by    |    September 2nd, 2011 at 7:07 am

Lauren Conrad’s new upscale line, Paper Crown is just gorgeous…as evidenced above with that wispy, ethereal dress that whispers “Romance me!” (The romance maker is called the Ella Gown, seen here in Nude.) At this very moment, you can only find Paper Crown in one boutique in Texas, the Aquarius Boutique in San Antonio. Bummer, I know.  But Nordstrom, who carries our local fav Abi Ferrin’s line nationally now, has Paper Crown online. Won’t you join me in emailing Nordy’s to ask them to carry the line in-store?  Sometimes it’s just waaaaay more fun to try on beautiful things and imagine where you’re going to wear it while surrounded by mirrors and elevator music.  I’m just sayin’.
