Kristi and Scot Redman: the Forces Behind ‘D Style Sheet’

Posted by    |    November 30th, 2011 at 12:31 pm

Kristi and Scot Redman, the founders of D Style Sheet (formerly Hilltop Glossy), are film graduates from SMU with an eye for style and a passion for photography. Their cinematic, “capture the moment” style has brought Dallas’ fashion and street style to life.

How did you get the idea for Hilltop Glossy?

Scot was finishing his last semester at SMU and we just couldn’t get over the fashion changes that were happening on campus. It’s so innovative and youthful. It honestly rivals what you see in Paris or London, and we felt that we wanted to share that with the world.

You take such incredible photos, what inspired your “capture the moment” style?

I think our photography style is a direct result of our film degree backgrounds. It’s very cinematic, dreamy, and photojournalistic. We always strive to tell a story through the image. And, of course, we’re both in love with photography greats like Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, Richard Avedon, and Helmut Newton.

You clearly have an eye for fashion, how would you describe your own style?

Since our job is to look at fashion, we are always taking away bits and pieces of it for our own style. It’s always evolving, which is very exciting.

What do you look for when on a shoot? For example, what moments do you look to capture on SMU’s campus?

We shoot fashion that is cutting-edge, very personal style, and usually playing with current trends. SMU has created a fashion culture where girls, and guys, experiment with trends, brands, and worldly influences in ways that only stylists and fashion editors interpret looks. (more…)

Take a “Me Day” in Dallas

Everyone deserves at least one day out of the year to pamper themselves. Whether it’s a full body massage or just a pedicure, a “me day” is often well-deserved. Dallas is full of destinations to make your “me day” excursion. Two of my favorites are the Exhale Spa at the Hotel Palomar and Hotel ZaZa’s ZaSpa

The ZaSpa, located within the chic, boutique hotel, is the perfect place to unwind. Take the elevator up to the second floor, walk among the walls lined with vintage Hollywood photographs and make your way into the ZaSpa. Relax in the unique decor of the Chill Room before being escorted into one of six treatment rooms.

One of my favorite parts of the ZaSpa is their weekly deals. I recently utilized the Tanning for $20 Thursday and left looking like I’d just spent Spring Break in Cabo (without the tan lines). My tan was impeccable and lasted throughout the weekend. Book your appointment in advance for your personal SunFX airbrush and keep your eye out for other ZaSpa deals including Talk Me Up Tuesday (receive any 50 minute treatment for $60 for simply “liking” Hotel Zaza on Facebook and mentioning a special code mentioned on their page), Waxing Wednesday, and Face-Off Friday.

I’ve already raved about the magic that is Core Fusion, but that was merely a sampling of all the incredible offers at Exhale Spa. This urban, wellbeing spa has a killer location next to the Hotel Palomar on Mockingbird and offers everything from spa therapies and acupuncture to yoga and Body Enlightening. They also offer  hair removal from the specialists at Completely Bare. Choose from professional waxing as well as permanent laser hair removal using an intense pulsed light source (IPL) which painlessly and effectively delivers results. They even offer a free laser hair removal consultation. Also on the menu is the highly exotic (at least to me) vajeweling with Swarovski crystals. I mean, why not?

Take a “me day”, bronze yourself into a goddess, whip yourself into shape, achieve a flawless complexion and smooth skin and even vajewel yourself if the mood strikes you.

If you’re one of those people who seems to be in a constant battle with their chapped lips, I can commiserate. Every time I would walk into a CVS I would try something new. From Blistex to Aquaphor, Burt’s Bees to Supergoop, my lips were soothed but nothing was truly solving the problem. My lips’ savior came in the form of a perfectly chic little sphere: eos smooth spheres.

Rent The Runway: Turning Your Wardrobe Dreams Into Reality

If it were up to me, I would dress like Serena van der Woodsen every day. But unfortunately I am neither an NYC socialite nor a fictional character. So maybe I won’t be able to rock the latest trends from top designers every day, but thanks to Rent The Runway, I can occasionally rent my way towards emulating Miss van der Woodsen and her long, blonde locks.

Rent The Runway is a brilliant tool that allows you to rent your dream wardrobe at 90% off retail prices. You can rent everything from cocktail to black tie, floor-length to mini, and you can now rent purses and jewelry. No shoes though, this isn’t a bowling alley (ew).

Put Your Best Face Forward with Clarisonic

Your skin is a beautiful thing, and you want to keep it a beautiful thing. We’ve all been guilty of it (I know I have), we go to bed with our makeup on or simply glob on some nightly cream before passing out, but the first and most important step to any nightly ritual should always be cleansing. As a devoted user for almost a year, I can honestly say nothing cleanses skin better than the Clarisonic.

At the risk of sounding like an ad for a vacuum cleaner, let me first start by saying that yes, the Clarisonic is affective at cleaning but it’s also incredibly chic. I have the Mia (the little guy) in turquoise and it has quickly moved up the ranks as one of my most cherished possessions. It looks cool sitting on my vanity and it really, truly works.
