6-Course Beer Dinner at Campo on April 2

Campo Modern Country Bistro and World Beer Co. pair-up for a unique 6-course, beer paired dinner on Monday, April 2.  Bar opens at 6 p.m. and dinner is at 7 p.m.

Cost is $65 per person exclusive of tax and gratuity.  Seating is limited and reservations are required.

Mockingbird Station and food expert Steven Doyle, of, a lifestyle site covering the latest about food and entertainment in DFW, cordially invite you to treat your taste buds to our “Cook For A Cause” guest chef night, featuring Central 214 Executive Chef Graham Dodds, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday, March 30 at Trinity Hall Irish Pub, Suite 250.

This unique evening will feature a special three-course dinner prepared by chef Dodds, tasty spirits courtesy of Trinity Hall and gift bags full of delicious goodies. The event will benefit the Texas Honeybee Guild, a nonprofit organization of local beekeepers that provides education and honeybee rescue efforts in DFW.

Mockingbird Station Leap Crawl

Mockingbird Station, in cooperation with, a Website that connects people with great local businesses, will host The Station Leap Crawl from 6 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at The People’s Last Stand (Suite 210), Trinity Hall (Suite 250) and Urban Taco (Suite 125).

In honor of Yelp Drinks Week, a city-wide chance for residents to sample half-off cocktails at the places locals love on Feb. 27 – March 4, the Station will offer Yelp subscribers the chance to win $20 gift cards to three participating hot spots.

Simply become a Yelp subscriber and fill out a punch card at participating Yelp Drinks Week restaurants including The People’s Last Stand, Trinity Hall and Urban Taco. Sissy’s Southern Kitchen Opens on Henderson

Chef Lisa Garza, a former contestant on The Next Food Network Star and owner of Lisa Garza Taste Studio, is opening Sissy’s Southern Kitchen & Bar on Monday, February 27,2012. The restaurant will feature authentic Southern cuisine, cocktails and décor.

“The concept is inspired by my Southern roots. I was born in Memphis and raised by an old-school Southern daddy,” Garza says. “I have worked in and around the fine dining scene for almost 20 years—Sissy’s will be a slight departure. I want to build a fun place that feels like home in the South with great food, awesome drinks and friendly service.”

After perfecting the overall concept and menu, Garza hand-selected Chef Jeffery Hobbs, her dear friend and partner at Suze for seven years, to execute her culinary vision. The menu highlight, of course, is Sissy’s fried chicken: a choice of white or dark meat prepared in a house-blended brine and soaked in buttermilk. Expect other Southern staples like corn fritters with whipped honey butter (MY FAVORITE), whole fried okra, shrimp and white cheddar-green onion grits (DON’T PASS THIS UP) and gumbo.

Sissy’s Southern Kitchen and Bar will be open for dinner Monday through Wednesday from 5 p.m. to midnight, and Thursday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. They have a great patio to enjoy a jalapeño margarita or a secluded private space called The Parlor – perfect for meetings, parties and a quiet place to enjoy some “Southern comfort.” Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made by calling 214.827.9900.

A View from the Booth: The Fan Sports Lounge

The powers that be at YouPlusDallas decided last night to attend the official opening of The Fan Sports Lounge.  The Fan Sports Lounge is located on Olive  Street near Victory Plaza and the new home of the Ticket.  We had high expectations, and the evening did not disappoint.

The Fan Sports Lounge is the brainchild of CBS Radio’s Adam Mehl and restaurateur Bill Teague.  We tip our hats to CBS Radio’s own  Brian Purdy and Bruce Gilbert and to the senior management of CBS Radio for bringing radio to life.  In an industry literally devoid of creativity at the top levels, CBS Radio did something incredibly rare:

    1. They listened to seasoned professionals on the ground.
    2. They took a well-calculated risk.
    3. They gave the authority to execute the deal locally and Bill built out and launched in about 90 days.

The place was packed, and the “Hotness Police”  gave the evening a score of 89 out of a 100-point scale.  And whomever you were sitting at the table next to the radio studio around 7:30 last night?  All we can say is a heartfelt thank you.

The food was above average, and we particularly liked the pizza, reminding us  that we can get a quality, thin-crust pizza, ala Enos Pizza, near our studios. The highlight for us, besides the scenery, was the huge television screen. Bill, you are brilliant.

We understand from reading D Magazine’s Front Burner that the Ticket Management had no comment.  D Magazine should know by now that questions such as these should be directed to Atlanta.

Judging from the talent that made into the radio booth last night made us wonder if maybe being a DJ in radio can be cool again.

Meddlesome Moth Has The Best Beer Selection In Dallas. Yeah, I Just Said That

I post this under the Restaurants blog because Meddlesome Moth is indeed a restaurant, with a unique menu offering shared plates with a gastro-pub theme. I could talk more about the food, or how the Design District is on its way to being the next uber hip ‘hood in Dallas, but I’m just to eager to talk draughts, ales, lagers, and BEER.
