I remember trying something from a juicer back in the day and deciding never to have anything to do with liquidized veggies again. Ever. Ew. If that language is any indication of how old I was, clearly a significant amount of time has passed. Now I am fully on board with all things juiced and when I am struck with a desire to drink my fruits and veggies, my number one pick is always The Gem.
If I can find it that is. After my second or third trip, I mastered the art of locating and parking at this hidden “gem” (clever) but my first voyage to DUO (The Gem is inside) was not so fortunate. Just turn left right after Inwood Theater onto Inwood and you’re there. Why doesn’t Siri just tell me that? She keeps secrets.

For any recent Austin transplants, the transition just got a little easier. Hopdoddy Burger Bar opened last Wednesday in Dallas to some serious crowds. Founded by the original owners of Eddie V’s, it’s not your average burger grill.

Hopdoddy’s has the fresh, all-natural ingredients that almost every new restaurant has been boasting lately, but the food is actually incredible and the attention to detail is what truly sets this place apart. Grab the Terlingua with Sassy Sauce or the Ahi Tuna Burger to go with your beer or for lighter eaters, try one of the new Dallas-edition salads like their watermelon-feta-baby kale salad.
My fave: the Magic Shroom with Texas Goat Cheese and Basil Pesto.

So I just heard about a new restaurant opening in Snider Plaza this Wednesday, September 12, and I cannot wait to eat there. Seriously, it sounds amazing. These are the 3 main reasons East Hampton Sandwich Co. sounds so incredible.
1. It’s different
Yes it’s a sandwich place. But it’s not like other Dallas sandwich places. It’s more like something you’d find in NYC; a little elevated but comfortable. The sandwiches are handcrafted with sauces, salad dressings, soups, sides, and desserts made in-house. The two items I want to try most: the Lobster Roll and the Goat Cheese & Avocado. I mean right?
2. They serve wine and beer

Owner Hunter Pond
There aren’t a lot of sandwich places that serve wine and beer. But this one does, ensuring that I will choose this sandwich places over all others. Every time. I love me some vino with my Lobster Roll.
3. It’s lovely
Owner Hunter Pond hired Alex Urrunaga, of famed restaurant design firm Plan B Group, to design the interior. In accordance with its name, Urrunaga explains that, “The design of the restaurant was based on a traditional beach home. Most of the living is done in the kitchen when people entertain, so when you walk into East Hampton, it’s a clean space that resembles a large residential kitchen. You feel like you are sitting in your friend or neighbors welcoming home.” It’s a quick, casual but beautiful place.
See you on Wednesday! I’ll be the girl in the corner shameless stuffing lobster into her face.

The ultimate foodie event of the year is upon us! KRLD’s Restaurant Week begins today. This is a great time to have a try restaurants that’s prices may have intimated you. Also, many restaurants have items on their menu that are only offered during Restaurant Week, such as Chamberlain’s Duck Confit Spring Rolls. You have to try this!

It’s a perfect time to book summer dining deals at 130 regional hot spots opening up tables, and currently accepting reservations for this special giveback opportunity supporting the North Texas Food Bank and Lena Pope Home the week of August 15-21, 2011. The event continues through September 4, 2011.
The event showcases North Texas’ thriving culinary scene, offers tasty three-course prix fixe dinner priced at only $35/person (tax, tip and drinks billed separately). The icing on the cake is that you help support local fine dining establishments and two great charities – making a $7 donation to either the North Texas Food Bank in Dallas or Lena Pope Home in Fort Worth. Last year they raised over $600,000 for these great organizations.
BONUS TIP: Make a purchase of $25 or more at any Central Market location, to receive a certificate redeemable for a FREE fourth course valid at participating restaurants.
Where will you be dining? Enjoy & make your reservations at the participating restaurants here!

Truly a one-of-a-kind excursion, a trip to Rise n°1 allows Dallasites to experience the wonder of the gravity-defying, French souffle. We recently got some adventurous girls together to celebrate a birthday dinner at this “salon de souffle” and it was truly an event.
This particular friend is a food connoisseur; truly, no one loves food more passionately than she. She does not discriminate. She accepts foods of all shapes, sizes and origins. So we couldn’t take this friend to just any old restaurant, it needed to be special. Going to a restaurant that devotes itself to one of the most difficult of concoctions did not disappoint.

Today might not seem like a significant day, but in fact it’s Cow Appreciation Day. As you know, my family is a fan of Chick-fil-A and on “Cow Appreciation Day,” they give away free ENTREES & COMBO MEALS depending how much you come in dressed like a cow.You can print out their cow costume kit here if you need help or create our own “costumes.”

With the help of its “Eat Mor Chikin” cows campaign, Chick-fil-A was recognized in 2010 as one of the top “Marketers of the Year” by Advertising Age, and as one of J.D. Power and Associates’ “Top Restaurant Brands in Customer Satisfaction.”
In preparation for this day, I sat down with Chick-fil-A’s President & Chief Operating Operator Dan T. Cathy, who was in Dallas to celebrate the advertising campaign at the headquarters of its creator, The Richards Group. (more…)

It’s summer blockbuster movies season! So, what’s better than munching on some gourmet popcorn while you enjoy these summer flicks. The good news is that you don’t have to travel to Chicago to grab a bag…Uptown Popcorn located in NorthPark Center, The Village at Fairview and Uptown Village at Cedar Hill has all you want and more.
As you walked up to the shop, the wafting smells of freshly popped popcorn and luscious caramel fills the air. Uptown Popcorn produces 70-plus flavors of gourmet popcorn. What is awesome about this shop is that they give out free samples, so you can try before you buy! They have every flavor from strawberry cheesecake to beer popcorn.

Paul’s Caramel and Hannah’s Caramel are amazing! You also need to try these flavor combos: The Chick Flick (Cookies & Cream, Rocky Road and S’mores) and The Chili’s (Chili Cheese and Loaded Baked Potato).
What’s your favorite gourmet popcorn flavor? What combo should we try next?
