Chip’s heads outdoors

Posted by    |    March 20th, 2011 at 2:17 pm

Parkies, get ready for a new see and be seen hangout!

A few weeks ago, I alerted you to the fact that Chip’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers was undergoing a transformation. The scheduled completion for this project is April 1 (fingers crossed). Patrons will be able to enjoy beer, wine and mixed drinks on the newly screened in porch. Today I was told that they are planning on knocking out the bathroom area and expanding into the parking lot a bit to add a new game room for the kids.

Posted by    |    March 15th, 2011 at 3:07 pm

Last Friday, Dallas Mavericks guard and 10-time NBA All-Star Jason Kidd announced that the Jason Kidd Foundation will hold its first Celebrity Casino Night on March 21 hosted by local sports broadcaster Chris Arnold and radio personality Kellie Raspberry of Kidd Kraddick in the Morning.

The event will feature a celebrity poker tournament as well as a live auction that includes items such as a trip to New York Fashion Week and a round of golf with Jason Kidd himself.  Additionally, those who are unable to attend the event will still have the opportunity to bid on auction items online from March 9 to March 30.

5 minutes. 20 slides. What would you have to say?

Five minutes, 20 slides. What would you say?

Last night at Ignite Dallas, 16 artists, technologists, thinkers, and personalities took the stage to answer this challenge.

They describe their event this way, “Ignite is fast-paced, fun, thought-provoking, social, local, global. It’s a high-energy evening of 5-minute talks by people who have an idea—and the guts to get onstage and share it with their hometown crowd. Presentations are a mix of serious vs. fun presentations, and are often about geeky activities…”

Curious onlookers gathered at the Granada Theater to hear a random presentation of ideas and philosophies from seasoned professionals to virgin speakers.

Are you patriotic? Here’s how you can show it.

Did you know that every day, more than 100 soldiers pass through DFW Airport on their way home for two weeks of well-deserved rest and recuperation (R&R).  The R&R Program was created to meet and greet the troops returning home from battle and to encourage and support our deployed military.  One flight of returning soldiers lands at DFW every day and the warm welcome provided by volunteer greeters begins the troops’ visit on a high note. A small portion meets their families here but the majority will catch connecting flights home.

Pink Memo debuts Spring Trends at Neiman Marcus

Posted by    |    February 17th, 2011 at 10:45 am

Last night, I joined the stylish at Neiman Marcus Downtown for a Boho Chic Spring Trend Event hosted by Pink Memo.

They advise, “When shopping this spring, the following boho influences will keep you ‘on-trend’, so remember: look cool in coral, bloom in floral, solid in stripes, glow in a white hot wardrobe, layer long necklaces, get a must-have crossbody bag, flutter in flat sandals, and one must always wear a wedge.”

They weren’t kidding about the coral. (more…)

Purdue Ave. Smores Party

Posted by    |    February 14th, 2011 at 9:15 am

The 4300 block of Purdue is legendary for its neighborhood parties.

Throughout the year, on any given night, if you see a plastic pink flamingo is someones yard – it means that’s the location of a neighborhood gathering that night.

Seven inches of snow and 4 days off from school had everyone a bit stir crazy last week, so Kyle Green decided a party was in order and the pink flamingo went out.

Neighbors gathered on Friday, February 4 to visit by a roaring bonfire, make Smores, and drink hot chocolate.  Of course, a snowball fight broke out and it was men vs. boys in a battle royale.  (The ladies were smart and stuck by the fire.) It was another evening of neighborhood fun, and reminded me of why Park Cities is such a fantastic place to live!

Now… who has that flamingo???

Win Free Flowers for Valentine’s Day

Posted by    |    February 10th, 2011 at 11:05 pm

Look what showed up on my doorstep today!

The Koran states, “Bread feeds the body… but flowers feed the soul.”

There’s nothing quite as wondrous as a flower. Bathed in color, supple to touch, luscious in scent. Flowers can be sexy, sensuous, playful, flirty, mysterious and are always magical to behold.

Emma Goldman said, “I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.” I don’t know if I’d go that far… but I do love a fragrant bouquet of flowers.

The Flower Cart is a Dallas florist who would like to make your Valentine’s Day – or any ‘ole day – a little brighter.  They have given me a $30 gift card to bestow on one lucky reader. (more…)

Super Bowl XLV Party Crashers

Posted by    |    February 7th, 2011 at 2:07 pm

Heather Morris from Glee

I received a top-secret phone call last Thursday.  The mission – should I chose to accept it – was to hit the town Saturday night and try to crash all of the hottest Super Bowl parties the night before the Big Game.  I would be given a new tricked-out 2011 Ford Explorer to drive and a savvy posse of fellow-crashers. There were no tickets and no special access. The challenge was to drive up in a great car, bullshit our way into these exclusive events and document our journey.

I’ve always liked a challenge…  In college, my friends and I had a rule. Never stand in line, never pay cover and never pay for drinks.  It worked great when I was 20.  But could I still compete with a bevvy of the city’s hottest gals who were ALL out on the same night?

My co-horts in crime and I met up for dinner at Villa-O Saturday evening to formulate our plan of attack. We came up with a list of the most high-profile parties and decided to start at the top and work our way down to see where we could get in. (more…)

Legends of Charity celebrates NFL on Fox

Posted by    |    February 3rd, 2011 at 10:46 pm

After a long week of icy roads, freezing temperatures and a slew of canceled Super Bowl events…  The NFL on FOX on-air team was honored tonight at the seventh annual Legends for Charity dinner to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at the Hilton Anatole.  The dinner celebrated the broadcasting and professional football careers of the NFL on FOX on-air talent while showcasing the lifesaving research and treatment done at St. Jude.

“The group award this year – which varies from the original concept of selecting an individual who has not only excelled in their field but for their personal commitment to making a difference in the lives of others – was done to celebrate the difference the network – The NFL ON FOX – is making through their creation of the FOX Sports Supports program,” said Mr. Summerall. ” It was a perfect way to celebrate their selection of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.”

Pam’s Annual Sugar ‘N Bubbly Holiday Party

Posted by    |    December 22nd, 2010 at 10:12 am

“An invitation like none other”

That’s what the invitation read, so expectations were high as I headed out to this soiree on Saturday!

The hostess provided the champagne and wine and guests brought a dessert.  This party was for ladies only.  I thought this was super cute idea for a party.

The genius in this idea is that women LOVE to eat sweets but we always feel we have to be dainty in front of men.  Get us alone and we women can hoark down a pie in 2 minutes flat.

And let me tell you, there were some happy tummies at the end of this sugary affair.

The only bad thing is that once all the guests leave, what do you do with all of those left-over desserts!?
