Portand Bicycle Advocates at Dallas Bike Works, tonight!

Posted by    |    November 26th, 2013 at 4:38 pm

BFOC and local advocate Zach Ford was able to arrange this last minute gathering while they’re in town.  Come meet Elly and Joe (and their dog Ruby) who are on a national tour with their folding Brompton bikes and AMTRAK!

They’ll have finger food from The Classic Cup Cafe as well a presentation from Joe. He will be showing bits from films he has made as well as discussing Bicycle Tourism and Multi-Modal travel in the US.

Come out and have some fun with us and the rest of the Dallas Bicycle Community!  BYOBImage

Would You Like to Be on the BFOC Board?

Posted by    |    November 6th, 2013 at 9:05 pm

The events we throw year-round, grants and donations we receive, and infrastructure we advocate for are all determined by our core Board of dedicated volunteers. We’re looking to add a few passionate cyclists from the neighborhood to round-out our reach and capacity to make OC the most bike-friendly neighborhood in Dallas.

If you’re interested, shoot an email to bfoc-board-2013 [at] googlegroups [dot] com. Include your contact info as well as why you’re interested in being on the board and what unique skills or experience you bring to the table. We’re hoping to increase the diversity of our board in all kinds of ways so we’re looking for YOU!

Also, keep in mind that the BFOC board is actually the Oak Cliff Transit Authority, since it’s the organizational umbrella. (Yes, OCTA won the Federal grant for the street car lines being built!) So really, we’re all about awesome walk, bike, trolly, bus, car, and everything-else transportation for our neighborhood. We meet once a month and are constantly thinking, dreaming, planning, and emailing.

Street Art Bike Tour with the Dallas Contemporary

Posted by    |    November 1st, 2013 at 8:00 am

The weekend of November 9th is the Dallas Contemporary’s 35th anniversary. I had no idea how much they’ve contributed to the visual beauty of our in-town neighborhoods until they told me about all the murals they’ve helped create.

So Cycle Style is leading a tour of 4 of the 5 of their murals in the Design District and West Dallas. Complete with a docent from the museum to tell us about each one! We’ll see works from Shepard Fairey, JMR, Sour Grapes, and Faile. Some home-town and some international favorites in there!

Saturday November 9th, 11am – embark from the Dallas Contemporary, 1pm – return.

We’ll start and end at the Dallas Contemporary, and we’ll return to find the Tutta’s Pizza food truck at the end of our ride!

See dallascontemporary.org/alivefr35 for a full run-down of the celebration’s events, all FREE by the way, except for the Saturday night Birthday Bash – it’s going to be an epic weekend to remember.
