Oak Cliff

It was an amazing night last night, with an estimated crowd of 3,000 people celebrating Bastille Day in Bishop Arts. This was the first year that we were able to celebrate with Dallas’s sister city in France, Dijon. Dijon’s Mayor broadcast the following message to all attendees prior to a re-broadcast we showed of their city’s fireworks display 7 hours prior:

We have so much to report on this year’s Bastille on Bishop event, but since it’s getting late we wanted to quickly give a nod to this year’s 2011 Bastille on Bishop mussels winner: Matt McAllister.  Matt formerly worked at Stephen Pyles restaurant and is in the process of opening his own space now. Hopefully for Matt history will repeat itself, as last year’s winner was Dave Uygur, who was also about to open his own new spot…and we all know how that’s turned out.

Second place went to Scott Romano of Charlie Palmer. Congrats to all who took part and we can’t wait to start prepping for 2012′s big soiree!

Bastille on Bishop is this Thursday, July 14 from 6pm-10pm in the heart of the Bishop Arts District, and the lineup of chefs for the second annual Mussel Competition has been finalized.  It’s a great list of chefs, but sadly, defending champ David Uygur from Lucia is unable to defend his title because his uber popular restaurant has opened since he last competed and he can’t get out of the kitchen. But we do have several returning challengers as well as several new faces competing for the 2011 title.

It’s that time again to break out the baguettes, don your best berets, and celebrate Oak Cliff’s historic “La Reunion” French colony with the return of our epic Bastille on Bishop celebration! This time around, Go Oak Cliff is partnering with the Alliance Francaise de Dallas, the French American Chamber of Commerce, and the city of Dijon to bring another fun filled street festival complete with wine, vespas, crepe stands, mussels competitions, petanque courts, mimes, accordions, french maid relays, dancing, and more.

Once again, renowned area chefs will compete in a mussels competition judged by the Dallas Morning News, D Magazine, and the Dallas Observer. Also, a collection of historic French 2CV Citroens will be on hand as Francophile’s enter the district. We’ll also have a video feed from Dallas’s sister city, Dijon, broadcasting images and messages from their city’s celebrations.  The party takes place on Thursday, July 14th, from 6PM – 10PM.
