Deep Ellum Art Festival

Last year, I was a woman without a plan at the Deep Ellum Art Festival.  I walked in awe, going from one artist’s booth to the next.  I was over run with original art and I couldn’t make a decision.  This year, I’m prepared and you can be too!

1.  Check out the Performance Schedule. This schedule lists everything going on at the Pegasus News Stage, Dallas Observer Stage, Singer/Songwriter Stage, ArtLoveMagic Artists Alley, and at the Art Bar.

2.  Get familiar with the artist. By clicking this link, you can look up the artists and learn more about them.  It also helps by knowing your art needs at home and coming with a direction.

3.  Come hungry and thirsty. The Festival will not only have food and drinks, but Deep Ellum has some delicious restaurants.  I dine at the following regularly:  Twisted Root, Il Cane Rosso, Cowboy Chow, Angry Dog, St. Pete’s Dancing Marlin, Deep Sushi, Lemongrass, Mama Faye’s BBQ, and Local.   If you can’t decide on a restaurant, then don’t miss out on “Taste of Deep Ellum”.  Signature Deep Ellum restaurants will create a Deep Ellum Village within the festival.  Local restaurants will be selling samples of their most popular dishes accompanied by Deep Ellum artists and musicians displaying their works and performing the newest original sounds coming out of the neighborhood.

4.  Bring your pooch for Sunday’s Annual Deep Ellum Pet Parade. Hundreds of pet owners are invited to take their “Best Friends” on a tail-wagging promenade down Main Street.  Register to be eligible for prizes at the Deep Ellum Bark Park starting Sunday at 11:00am, or join in as the parade starts at 12:00 noon or anywhere along the way into the festival. Awards and pet related activities will take place near the intersection of Main Street and Malcolm X.  In order to enhance the festival for everyone, well trained dogs are welcome to the festival on Sunday only but will not be permitted on the festival site Friday or Saturday.

5.  Ride, don’t drive. Make this festival a care-free time for you and ride the DART’s new Green Line and have no worries on parking and driving.  The festival is only a short two-block walk from both the Deep Ellum and Baylor Stations.  And, if you want to sleep the night away and get up and do it all again the next day, stay at Hotel Indigo. They are the the 2011 offical festival hotel and is located just blocks from the festival site. They are offering an $89++ rate to artists and festival-goers (based on availabiltiy). To make a reservation, click here and use group code DEA or call (214) 741-7700 and ask for the Deep Ellum Arts Festival group rate.2011
