Imagine a dinner table straight out of Pinterest.

Outstanding in the Field

Outstanding in the Field, the pioneering farm-dinner series that has inspired pop-up supper clubs across North America and around the world returns to Dallas (or Dodd City) on Tuesday, October 23.

The series has taken dinner guests across the nation everywhere from farms and gardens, mountaintops and sea caves, and even islands or ranches. The table is set inside on occasion, but only for the likes of a beautiful refurbished barn, a cool greenhouse or a stately museum. Each location is meant to honor those who cultivated the meal and made it possible.

For the series’ return to Dallas, a long, white-linen table will be set in the fields of Sloans Creek Farm in Dodd City. As with each event put on by Outstanding in the Field, the meal is prepared by a celebrated chef of that region (someone outstanding in the[ir] field). Dallas chefs Jeana Johnson and Colleen O’Hare of Acme F&B and Good 2 Go Taco will prepare a multi-course meal in the al fresco kitchen sourcing on-the-hoof ingredients for the menu from the fields of host farmers Nathan and Ellen Melson and neighboring farms.

“Our past events in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area have been filled with enthusiastic diners,” said OITF founding chef and artist Jim Denevan. “Here, local food means Texas food, and everybody can get behind that. Even visiting non-Texans.”

Nearing the end of their cross-country travels, Dodd City marks the 76th stop on OITF’s 2012 North America Tour, which included an event on the rooftop of the Smithsonian in Washington DC. No matter where the setting, the mission remains the same: To re-connect diners to the land and the origins of their food and introduce them to the local farmers and food artisans whose good work brings nourishment to the table.

The event begins at 2 pm with a glass of wine and welcome hors d’oeuvres, followed by a tour of Sloans Creek Farm and a four-course meal paired with wines. Ticket price for the October 23 event is $200 per person, all-inclusive. The event starts at 2pm.
