Let’s face it, It’s miserably hot outside, and the Texas Gulf in no way conjures images of vacation bliss. But this weekend, Gexa Energy Pavilion will host 311 and Sublime with Rome, who will make your weekend at least sound like the beach.
[311 Q&A Session provided by 311 management]
What can listeners expect to hear?
SA: Our fans are gonna love this album [Universal Pulse, Released July 2011]. I think it’s a return to form in many ways, yet refined. We’re all refining. Stylistically I think our old-school fans will appreciate the character of some of these songs. I guess that’s what I mean when I say a return to form. The energy is great.

Leave it to Mark Foster to make preppy trendsters latch on to indie-pushing mainstream music like a tennis ball to Velcro. Los Angeles-based band Foster The People has infiltrated pop and rock radio stations like an infectious plague, seeping into the bloodstreams of hi-top clad teens and twenty-somethings following the release of their debut album. And it seems as though Dallas can’t get enough.
Strange city, Dallas is. And by strange, I mean interesting rather than weird. Perhaps puzzling rather than interesting. The city has somehow managed to fuse what are usually opposite genres of style, creating some new breed of indie/hipster and preppy/posh. This new breed was recently dusted around House of Blues like pollen after a storm. (more…)

“Hello?”
“Did I wake you up?”
“Haha no – I’m in a hotel with sleepy bandies.”
“Ah. Where are you?”
“We’re in…. aw, sh!t, where are we…”
11AM is a pretty early morning for a pop artist, and Ricky Reed is half-awake in the bleak lighting that slips through his hotel curtains. The frontman for Wallpaper. and his gang are currently on a mini-US summer tour promoting the #STUPiDFACEDD EP recently released July 26 via Boardwalk Records and Hype Music.
Citing inspirations as the best of the Bay Area and icon Prince, Wallpaper.’s catchy ‘tude-driven pop beats can coerce the bodies of even the worst dancers into groove-mode. YouPlusDallas caught up with Reed to find out more about the tour which heads to Dallas tomorrow night, the apex of being #STUPiDFACEDD and the art of erasing a farmers tan. (more…)

The Hope Trust at Club Dada 7.30.11
We spent Saturday night toasting $4.75 Heinekens at Club Dada and fell in love with Denton band the Hope Trust. Their sound is made up of equal parts rock & roll pop-blended songs such as the title track off new record Light Can’t Escape. It’s a truly madly deeply scenario.
We may or may not have purchased both of their albums at the merch table post-show, and may or may not be rotating between the two in our car stereos presently.
Also, they’re not bad to look at.
For the 22 tracks they have to their name, the band played a decent-sized set into the wee hours of the morning, counting down to the final song, making sure the petite audience need not worry about being handed a short set for their money. “We’re not going to Kings of Leon on you,” lead singer and guitarist Kelly Upshaw jested, referring to the train wreck that occurred last Friday. Aww, see, look. They’re funny too.
Catch the Hope Trust Thurs 8.25.11 at Dan’s Silverleaf and Sat 9.3.11 at Hailey’s

SO Granada Theater has a pretty sweet lineup for the remainder of the year (by the way, we’ve recently entered the last THIRD of 2011. Basically it’s already Thanksgiving). No exception, colorful Australian pop singer Sia will perform with Oh Land and Ximena Sarinana at this Sunday’s near sold-out show.
And we’ve got TWO TICKETS to give away.
But of course there is a catch. It’s a fun catch though, promise. If you’re a Granada groupie like we are, you probably heard of the tiny little event that took place a couple weeks ago celebrating this little blog that’s only been heralded by the likes of Rolling Stone: the Gorilla vs. Bear Festival.
We filmed it. You were there. We want you to see it.
Watch the Gorilla vs. Bear video, ‘Like it’ and tell us what you think by logging into Facebook Connect and leave a comment. We’ll pick a lucky winner by the end of the day today. Get to it.
