Even with on-field temperatures reaching 120 degrees, the new version of HP Scot Football showed plenty of energy, taking control of the Tom Landry Classic early and dominating a highly-ranked Everman team, 48-28. Senior quarterback Brady Burgin had an impressive debut, going 18-26 for 274 yards and 5 touchdowns (4 passing, one rushing). Burgin got better and better as the game went on, syncing with receivers Hunter Halpin (2 TDs), William Morris (2 TDs), and Dalton Stogner (7 catches, 79 yards).

The defense was equally salty, controlling the line of scrimmage and only giving up a few big plays. Everman's famed running game had very little success. The one dark moment was the first quarter injury to HP's popular junior linebacker, Guy Tom Kellogg, who broke his leg and will sadly miss the rest of the season. All in all, an impressive start to the year for a team which should get stronger and more efficient each week.
