Clayton Kershaw, native Dallasite and star pitcher of the Los Angeles Dodgers, has escalated his game in such a short period of time, like few others in baseball history. Kershaw’s mound acumen is obviously what has earned him top headlines, but his off the field habits deserve the most praise.

Kershaw and his wife Ellen have just released their first book, entitled ‘Arise’, in reference to Arise Africa, a charitable organization built to assist the people of Africa and release them from the binds of poverty. The organization aids in a multitude of ways, including healthcare, business, education and discipleship.

His personal charity, “Kershaw’s Challenge”, for which he and his wife Ellen donate $100 for each strikeout to African-based charities, has also raised nearly half a million dollars. He is now dedicated to making an even more tangible difference with the recent groundbreaking of an orphanage that will be named “Hope’s Home” in Zambia.

As great as a baseball player as Kershaw has become, it is likely his off the field contributions that will be his most notable and leave the greatest impressions. Be sure to check him out on opening day and at
