For me, The Porch on N. Henderson Avenue couldn’t be more perfect. Combining comfort food with a hip, social atmosphere, it has quickly become one of my go-to restaurants for any occasion. Their tagline, “Downhome Food / Uptown Cocktails” perfectly captures the nature of the diverse menu concocted by Nick Badovinus (chef and owner of The Porch, Hibiscus, Fireside Pies and Neighborhood Services, just to name a few).
And it’s not just the food that’s diverse. Walk into The Porch on a Friday night and you’ll see college-students grabbing a quick cocktail, twenty-somethings dressed to the nines, families with little kids, and some very stylish (or not-so-stylish) over-50 set.
Why such a vast demographic? Badovinus has filled his menu (the way he fills most of his hit menus) with items that speak personally to all age groups. There’s comfort in a menu covered in options like Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup, Parmesan Broccoli, and Mac & Cheese. And for dessert? S’mores of course! Pair it with one (or two) of The Porch’s freshly mixed cocktails for the full Porch experience.
My personal suggestion? The Three Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup. Combining Port Salute, Provolone and Cheddar, it’s my favorite sandwich in Dallas.
