At the age of sixteen, Lorde blessed us with her debut EP, The Love Club. That was 2012, and since then, she’s released her debut album, Pure HeroinLorde’s music is dance-inducing, a little dark, and definitely fresh. I’ve never seen her live, but judging by the live recordings I’ve watched repeatedly on YouTube, she puts on a pretty great show. If you’re one of the lucky people who snatched up tickets to tonight’s sold out show at Gilley’s South Side Ballroom, I deeply envy you. I would ask you to post as many photos, videos, and updates to Twitter and Instagram as possible during the performance, but the jealousy may overwhelm me, and I wouldn’t want you to miss out on the magic on stage. Check in to Gilley’s on Facebook, let all your friends post their jealous comments, take one photo to capture the memory, and then just put your phone away and take it all in.

Open Mic Night @ Poor David’s Pub

Last night was Open Mic Night at Poor David’s Pub in South Dallas – a weekly Wednesday occasion hosted by Mr. Troll of Dallas Area Open Mic Nights. I knew it was going to be a good night when I walked in and heard Weezer’s Blue Album was playing in its entirety while the crowd waited. It got even better when Mr. Troll personally welcomed and introduced himself to me. He kicked off the show with three of his own original songs, then introduced the rest of the performers, one of which was Poor David himself!

Play guitar? Like to sing? Wanna perform? Just show up next Wednesday and drop your name in the bucket. Judging by last night’s performances, you’ll be in good company. Plus, they have cameras set up so you can purchase a YouTube-ready video of your performance afterward. And if you don’t fancy performing, but want something fun and cheap to do on a Wednesday night, I’d highly recommend stopping in for some good drinks and free entertainment.

Rock On

Rockers, emo kids, and 80’s enthusiasts, it’s time to bust out your favorite ripped jeans, flat irons, and parachute pants, and rock out at the Palladium Ballroom on South Lamar. This summer’s line-up boasts a wicked cool array of artists that are best seen in the Palladium’s lax atmosphere. Artists such as The Silversun Pickups, Against Me!, Shwayze, Vampire Weekend, and even Billy Idol will grace the stage in the months to come. So throw on your checkered Vans and race over to hear the sweet sounds of summer.
