Dale-Earnhardt-Jr-JrThis Friday, Dallas welcomes the Detroit indie duo Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. to the Loft at Gilley’s Dallas, and let’s give them a warm Texas welcome  shall we? They deserve it for making some fun tracks that will fit perfectly with the summer time fun that’s on its way. Their new track If you didn’t see me (You weren’t on the dance floor) should definitely be on one if not all your your summer playlists this year. It’s a fun, breezy tune with a good beat and a little bit of sass that elicits images of nights spent workin’ up a sweat under rainbow lights.

The rest of the songs on their new EP, entitled Patterns, follow a similar sound with a couple that are a little slower and emotional but none that come off as too heavy for a warm nights spent dancing with friends

Cat Power 1.25.13

cat-power-sun-1If you saw Juno one of the songs you most likely remember from the movie is Cat Power’s cover of Phil Phillips song Sea of Love. Employing her style of minimalist yet strongly emotive folk, Cat Power brought a dreamy and bittersweet feeling to the R&B classic. Late last year Cat Power a.k.a singer/song writer Chan Marshall released her latest album entitled Sun. While the sound of Sun is similar to Sea of Love and other previous work by Cat Power, this time she chose to step away a little from her minimalism and employ some more complex and danceable musical arrangements, in a sentence the album is ”a passionate pop album of electronic music filtered through a singer-songwriter’s soul” (via)

From wine to Raman Noodles, the Urban Market provides supermarket items in the comfort of a small convenient store setting.

According to the Urban Market website, they are the only full-service grocery store serving the downtown Dallas area.

Along with its stocked shelves of popular name-brand items, Urban Market plays host to a café with delicious-looking foods on the menu.

Urban Market has two locations. I explored the one located at 1409 South Lamar in the basement of the red South Side building.

What I loved about this place is its convenience. Residents who live in the lofts on the floors above can be at the market in as long as it takes to push a button and call the elevator. (more…)
