A lively fashion show does something for the soul. One minute you’re bummed because you have nowhere to wear that new dress, and the next you’re front row near the catwalk showing it off for the photogs. Luckily, Dallas has no shortage of great fashion show events to help you get your fix. On this Friday, July 20th at Ilume on Cedar Springs, Prestige Model Management proudly presents the “Sizzlin’ Summer Fashion Show” benefiting the Red Party Foundation.
The Red Party Foundation raises funds to benefit the Legacy Counseling Center and Founders Cottage. For 20 years, Legacy has provided quality mental health care, substance abuse treatment and special care housing services for people challenged with HIV and AIDS. In honor of this worthy cause, guests will come decked out and dressed to impress in their most fabulous poolside fashions and sip on featured cocktails provided by Hudson Ferus Premium Vodka. All ticket proceeds benefit the Red Party Foundation, which is something everyone can feel good about.
One unique aspect to this event is the array of designs featured. The runway show will kick off with vintage looks and then rapidly progress into futuristic designs. Models are slated to showcase summer styles on custom built pool-top runways. Sexy!
If you’re looking for hair and make-up inspiration in real life and not simply on Pinterest, the hair and makeup on models will be done by the spectacular artists of Neiman Marcus and Toni and Guy and will feature designs by New York Fashion Week Couture Designer, Anthony Manfredonia.
Special prizes, raffles, and giveaways sure to please the crowd will be provided by Neiman Marcus, Michael Kors, and Tiffany and Co. (Feelin’ lucky?)

See all this ridiculously gorgeous eye candy? It’s Jason Wu. He’s the mastermind of modern fashion, and has done everything from couture to Target.
According to ABCNews.com this past winter, “Mere hours after Target released designer Jason Wu’s limited-edition collection in-store and online Sunday, the fashion line was sold out.“The collection became available shortly after midnight online, and was sold out within a few hours,” said Joshua Thomas, a spokesman for Target. “The feedback from consumers has been overwhelming positive. …Jason Wu is a fashion darling and his collection is very wearable by a variety of body types and styles.”Thomas added that out of the 1,800 Target stores nationwide, 1,200 of those stores carried Wu’s collection and many were “sold out or running low.” Wowza.
Women world-wide love him for his feminine designs and use of bold color. (Men hate him for draining their wives’ pocketbooks.) And now, Dallas is getting their own taste of Wu as his Jason Wu Fall 2012 Collection debuts on June 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Neiman Marcus Downtown. Simply head to the Couture Salon on Level Two and dream away of what you’ll wear this fall. Wu will woo you.

Last Friday night, Tootsies opened their doors for an event that did more than just benefit Dress For Success Dallas-it put smiles on the faces of everyone there. Not the “I’m smiling because there are photographers surrounding the place” smiles, but real, genuine, unforced smiles of joy. Hearing the mission of Dress For Success Dallas firsthand from several ladies who have been through the program is something that really strikes a positive chord inside.
Basically, the organization promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. The confidence, the sheer pride in what they’ve accomplished…it’s inspiring, to say the least.
In addition to the priceless inspiration, father-daughter duos walked the runway wearing what can only be described as the most colorful, sparkly, and summertime fabulous clothes you’ve ever seen on a Friday night. Tootsies was the ideal backdrop for this display, with colorful collections surrounding the runway beckoning attendees to shop their hearts out as soon as the show ended. With Dress For Success Dallas as your motivation and shopping as your tool to help those in need, how can it get any better?

In conjunction with the the annual Continental Gin Open Studios Art Show, the STATUS Flagship Boutique is having its Grand Opening this weekend. Each year, over 25 artists open up their studios in the historic landmark Continental Gin building allowing a first hand view of how the art is created and the lifestyle of an artist.

DRESSED, the inspiring documentary about self-taught clothing designer Nary Manivong, who defied the odds of a broken childhood and homelessness to ultimately show his collection at New York’s famed Fashion Week, regionally premieres in Dallas at the historic Texas Theatre on Friday, October 28, at 8:00 p.m.

Filmed on location in New York City, as well as Manivong’s hometown of Columbus, Ohio, DRESSED beautifully illustrates the strength and resilience of the human spirit as Manivong navigates through one of the toughest businesses in the world – the fashion industry.
“I remember being inspired by the beauty of clothes, and what it would be like to create garments for the type of woman I want to dress,” said Manivong, who eventually partnered with Alexandria Hilfiger to begin their own design label, NAHM, which is an anagram of the two designers’ initials and also means “water” in Laotian. Manivong and Hilfiger debuted their first collection together this past February during the Fall 2011 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. Both Manivong and Hilfiger will be attending the Dallas screening event, along with the film’s director David Swajeski and executive producer Maryanne Grisz.
A limited number of seats for this special premiere screening will be available to the public through the Texas Theatre and El Centro College. First opened in 1931 and recently restored to some of its original lavish grandeur, the Texas Theatre was briefly owned by renowned aviator and film producer Howard Hughes and later became infamously known as the site where Lee Harvey Oswald was apprehended shortly after he assassinated President John F. Kennedy in 1963.

Here at You Plus Dallas, we have an on-going love affair with denim. We wear it to the office, we shoot in it, we write style blogs about it. (Ahem.)
