Hot on the heels of the release of those unflattering photos of actress Kristen Stewart canoodling with her “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders, Twi-hards are either wiping away tears or heading for the mall. How does a 21-year old Stewart, who isn’t known for her warm, fuzzy demeanor or flirtatious attitude hook a 41-year old married father of two and earn the moniker “trampire?” With rebel style, of course.
Sporting this style is in NO way recommended to begin a tryst with a married person. But, there may be something ladies can learn from Stewart-men of all ages like a low-maintenance lady. I think we can all agree that low-maintenance includes the following:
“I Just Woke Up” Hair:

One of the things that I love about style is that it can be anything. Style is really defined as the process of creating something or the prevailing mode of expression. Many people have great style because of who they are, not necessarily what they wear or how they wear it.
When I heard about this wonderful idea of sharing for the holidays, I immediately wanted to share it with you now. In July. Yes, the holidays are quite a ways off, and most of us are thinking more about what to pack for the pool than decorating the tree, but it brings to mind the warm, fuzzy feeling I used to get as a kid when our church would do a “Christmas in July” gift drive to provide for those in need. I love that this idea is similar in spirit.
A Christmas Jar or Holiday Money Jar is a new tradition that has spread because of author Jason F. Wright. In 2005, his family decided to put change and dollar bills into an empty mason jar throughout the year and then anonymously give the jar to someone who could really use one.
Wright later wrote this New York Times Best Seller, Christmas Jars, and the rest of the world fell in love with this modern holiday tradition as well.
What a great idea, right? We all have loose change, extra dollar bills crumpled in our wallets or purses….just sitting around waiting to be placed into a Christmas jar. If you have kiddos, this is an especially valuable lesson to teach them as a family. Helping others in need without expecting a “thank you” or any sort of return is giving at its best.
Want to create your own jar now to have ready by December? Here are some helpful tips from So Crafty.
- Take a jar – pickle, mayonnaise, canning. Anything will work, really.
- Wash it out.
- Throughout the year drop in your spare change.
- Once it is in the jar, don’t touch it.
- Let the change add up over the course of a year.
- During the holiday season, find someone to give it to anonymously.
- You may want to add a note about the tradition of the Christmas or Holiday Jar.
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then I wouldn’t mind anyone copying this style one bit. Happy Holidays!

Summer can mean dry, scaly legs…which is unfortunate when the temps are in triple digits and you want to keep them cool. Instead of slathering on greasy lotion or shedding dry skin, a homemade concoction just might do the trick. The Amazing Spiderman may have renewed the popularity of lizards, but your skin doesn’t need to feel like one.

Citrus juice = soft legs!
Ingredients and Directions (courtesy of Military-fit Bombshell)
- 1 1/4 C Sugar (just the store bought stuff-nothing fancy)
- 1/2 C Oil (any kind will do…I like coconut oil)
- 3 tablespoons Citrus (Lime or lemon)
- Mix everything together in a bowl.
- Soak your legs in the tub for 5 minutes.
- Shave your legs.
- Rub some of the mixture all over your legs. The sugar will help rub off all dirt and dead skin.
- Rinse it all off, shave again. Remove any and all dead skin.
- Rub your legs again with the mixture.
- Rinse off with soap to remove any remaining residue.
- Add lotion and be ready to sport shorts!

Summer ready legs are a few scrubs away...
You can use this mixture for hands, feet, arms, etc. It’s an easy way to exfoliate without purchasing expensive sugar scrubs, and your soft legs will thank you. (As will those who touch them!)

Katy Perry is white-hot at the moment. Her new documentary, “Part of Me” is in theaters, her new single “Wide Awake” is topping the charts, and her divorce from Russel Brand is now becoming a distant memory. So it seems only fitting that as Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez exit American Idol, Perry would be a natural fit.
Katie acted as a guest judge on the show during Season 9, when Simon Cowell was still insulting teen dreams all over the nation. She knows the drill, she’s delivered the harsh news to hopeful contenders. So why not return and raise her star quotient as Jennifer Lopez did, right?

Katy Perry: American Idol future?
Wrong. Er, sort-of. Perry doesn’t dismiss the possibility of her return to American Idol, but doesn’t feel the timing is right. Mentioning, “I have ideas for two or three big, creative things, and I want to be able to fulfill those ideas, ” rumors have been swirling that her own clothing label or beauty line may be in the works. It isn’t a far-fetched idea, since her perfume Purr by Katy Perry hit shelves and has done relatively well with young consumers, and her perfume web address is katyperrybeauty.com. (With a web address like that, there is plenty of room to add additional products.)
One can only imagine the colorful, bubble-gummy style that Perry’s fashion might reflect, but the singer seems perfectly happy to continue on with her technicolor persona. If beauty and fashion are now a fixture on the pop star’s radar, then it looks like Idol won’t be.

Perry may add fashion designer to her list of accomplishments

I tried to keep from becoming that pet owner that is obsessed with their animal companion. I promised myself I wouldn’t spend tons of money on my two little critters, wouldn’t give in to their big, round eyes when I know they don’t need another treat, and wouldn’t get a bunch of frou frou pet accessories to clutter up my house. But once I became the owner of these rescue dog faces, I melted.

Miss FurFur
What is it about their wagging tails and zest for life that automatically melts your heart? I’m not sure how their sweet voodoo works, but once they take hold of your heart, you want them living the good life. Which is why Mungo and Maud made me do a double-take….this site is the ultimate in pet luxury. It’s the Pottery Barn of pet accessories, which means it’s simple, classic, and downright stylish.

Pod Bag Carrier
Dog carriers can be too functional to be cute, or too blinged out to be taken seriously, but Mungo and Maud have a version that is chic as can be.

Milan Collar in Malachite
Preppy dog collars are one way to let the public know that your dog or cat not only went to obedience school, but graduated top of their class.

Dog Bowl Woof
Dog bowls no longer have to be colorful plastic. This adorable Woof bowl would work in any room with any decor for only $29.

Rubber Gum Bear Dog Toy
You know a classy dog lives in a house that has dog toys that look like this. No torn up squeaky toys or ratty stuffed animals, no sir.
When you feel like splurging on the finer things for Fido, (or Mr. Whiskers,) pamper your pet with Mungo and Maud.

If you’ve been contemplating this since you first saw the teaser for the Bieb’s “Boyfriend” video, you should turn your attention to the lady who has managed to steal Justin’s heart. Rather than throwing darts at the photo of his lovely lady friend, how about taking some cues from her? Selena Gomez has always been bubble-gum sweet and sassy, but as she leaves her teens and becomes more accessible to her adult fans, she’s found a way to marry style, sex appeal, and girl-next-door freshness. How? Let’s take a look….
1. Healthy Physique.

Miss Gomez keeps herself at a normal, healthy weight and embraces her natural curves. She isn’t a twig, and can often be seen indulging in a sweet treat now and then. Regular exercise and adequate sleep keep her metabolism in check.
2. Natural, easy hair.

On the cover of this month’s Elle magazine, Gomez shows off her beautiful locks. One thing you’ll consistently notice about her is healthy, shiny, effortless hair. Once in a while she will go all out for a premiere, but on most days you’ll find her hair down or pulled into a neat pony. Low maintenance = guy magnet.
3. Not Afraid to Wear Color.

Too often, women feel that black is the only color that consistently looks slimming and classy. Why play it safe when bold colors send a more playful, fun, and empowering message? Red has been proven time and time again to be a favorite of men the world over, so take a page out of Selena’s playbook and give it a try.
4. Rock Jeans and T-Shirt.

Not every moment calls for stilettos and Marc Jacobs. It’s okay to be comfortable! If you’re going to dress down, throw on a stylish casual handbag and a few simple accessories. Nothing looks better with a delicate diamond necklace or designer watch than a simple white tee and jeans.
5. Never Underestimate a Smoky Eye and a Little Cleavage.

Again, not an “everyday” look, but when the occasion calls for it, bust out (no pun intended,) the black mini and kohl eyeliner. A little highlighter on your cheekbones, forehead, and decolletage will give you a fresh, dewy appearance and highlight those sparkling eyes. Skip the false eyelashes if you’re going to be expecting a goodnight kiss-it can look too spidery up close. Just smudge a black or gray eyeliner above top and below bottom lashes and pile on the mascara!
Who knows if this love affair with Justin Bieber will last, but Miss Gomez has a handle on how to snag a quality guy by balancing glamor with reality. Let’s all do likewise!

It’s been everywhere these past few years…bullying in our schools, kids trying desperately to fit in with what is considered “acceptable” and “cool”. Self-esteem is at an all-time low in children these days. In fact, having low self-esteem changes the way the brain responds to social feedback, according to Dartmouth researchers. So how does a pair of shoes help change all that?

CHOOZE Toddler Shoes
Dallas Mom Sharon Blumberg started noticing a few years ago that her daughter Ayla liked to mismatch her shoes. While some parents might try to correct their child’s shoe choices, Sharon started to see it as a creative form of self-expression. Her daughter was confident in her choices, and felt empowered by the encouragement to try new things. Realizing this inspiration to create and make a positive impact could affect other children in the same way, Blumberg began CHOOZE.

Shiloh Pitt rocking CHOOZE
CHOOZE shoes are immediately eye-catching because the colorful shoes are matched, but never the same. The right and left shoe are paired perfectly, yet have small differences that make them unique. (Angelina Jolie’s daughter Shiloh seems to wear her pair non-stop.)
Not only are these shoes good for the soul, they are good for the environment. Made of 100% vegan materials, they are machine washable (Moms everywhere are cheering!) and come with an “art box”. Rather than a plain shoe box that is discarded after the shoes become part of a child’s wardrobe, these special shoe boxes are made of recyclable materials and feature scenes begging for crayons and markers to decorate. With a handle on top, these boxes can become a child’s art piece, and can hold their toys, treasures, or whatever they’d like.

Fun art box made of recycled materials
So, apart from being some of the cutest children’s shoes you’ve ever seen and helping little ones express themselves, CHOOZE invests its profits at the end of the year in micro-finance institutions that provide loans, education, and training to women in extreme poverty. These programs do more than temporary assitance; they empower women to start their own businesses and move into a better station in life.
So can wearing two different shoes change the world? Thanks to Dallasite Sharon Blumberg, the answer is yes.
(CHOOZE shoes are sold in 300+ stores, including REI, Dillard’s, Whole Earth Provision Co., and Piperlime.com)

Last Friday night, Tootsies opened their doors for an event that did more than just benefit Dress For Success Dallas-it put smiles on the faces of everyone there. Not the “I’m smiling because there are photographers surrounding the place” smiles, but real, genuine, unforced smiles of joy. Hearing the mission of Dress For Success Dallas firsthand from several ladies who have been through the program is something that really strikes a positive chord inside.
Basically, the organization promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. The confidence, the sheer pride in what they’ve accomplished…it’s inspiring, to say the least.

In addition to the priceless inspiration, father-daughter duos walked the runway wearing what can only be described as the most colorful, sparkly, and summertime fabulous clothes you’ve ever seen on a Friday night. Tootsies was the ideal backdrop for this display, with colorful collections surrounding the runway beckoning attendees to shop their hearts out as soon as the show ended. With Dress For Success Dallas as your motivation and shopping as your tool to help those in need, how can it get any better?
