Kristen Stewart: Rebel Style the New Sexy?

Posted by    |    July 27th, 2012 at 7:00 am

Hot on the heels of the release of those unflattering photos of actress Kristen Stewart canoodling with her “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders, Twi-hards are either wiping away tears or heading for the mall.  How does a 21-year old Stewart, who isn’t known for her warm, fuzzy demeanor or flirtatious attitude hook a 41-year old married father of two and earn the moniker “trampire?”  With rebel style, of course.

Sporting this style is in NO way recommended to begin a tryst with a married person.  But, there may be something ladies can learn from Stewart-men of all ages like a low-maintenance lady.  I think we can all agree that low-maintenance includes the following:

Get Sexy Legs For Summer With Citrus Juice

Posted by    |    July 19th, 2012 at 7:00 am

Summer can mean dry, scaly legs…which is unfortunate when the temps are in triple digits and you want to keep them cool.  Instead of slathering on greasy lotion or shedding dry skin, a homemade concoction just might do the trick.  The Amazing Spiderman may have renewed the popularity of lizards, but your skin doesn’t need to feel like one.

Citrus juice = soft legs!

Ingredients and Directions (courtesy of Military-fit Bombshell)

  • 1 1/4 C Sugar (just the store bought stuff-nothing fancy)
  • 1/2 C Oil (any kind will do…I like coconut oil)
  • 3 tablespoons Citrus (Lime or lemon)
  1. Mix everything together in a bowl.
  2. Soak your legs in the tub for 5 minutes.
  3. Shave your legs.
  4. Rub some of the mixture all over your legs. The sugar will help rub off all dirt and dead skin.
  5. Rinse it all off, shave again. Remove any and all dead skin.
  6. Rub your legs again with the mixture.
  7. Rinse off with soap to remove any remaining residue.
  8. Add lotion and be ready to sport shorts!

Summer ready legs are a few scrubs away...

You can use this mixture for hands, feet, arms, etc.  It’s an easy way to exfoliate without purchasing expensive sugar scrubs, and your soft legs will thank you. (As will those who touch them!)

Posted by    |    July 18th, 2012 at 7:00 am

A lively fashion show does something for the soul.  One minute you’re bummed because you have nowhere to wear that new dress, and the next you’re front row near the catwalk showing it off for the photogs. Luckily, Dallas has no shortage of great fashion show events to help you get your fix. On this Friday, July 20th at Ilume on Cedar Springs, Prestige Model Management proudly presents the “Sizzlin’ Summer Fashion Show” benefiting the Red Party Foundation.

The Red Party Foundation raises funds to benefit the Legacy Counseling Center and Founders Cottage. For 20 years, Legacy has provided quality mental health care, substance abuse treatment and special care housing services for people challenged with HIV and AIDS. In honor of this worthy cause, guests will come decked out and dressed to impress in their most fabulous poolside fashions and sip on featured cocktails provided by Hudson Ferus Premium Vodka. All ticket proceeds benefit the Red Party Foundation, which is something everyone can feel good about.

One unique aspect to this event is the array of designs featured.  The runway show will kick off with vintage looks and  then rapidly progress into futuristic designs. Models are slated to showcase summer styles on custom built pool-top runways. Sexy!

If you’re looking for hair and make-up inspiration in real life and not simply on Pinterest, the hair and makeup on models will be done by the spectacular artists of Neiman Marcus and Toni and Guy and will feature designs by New York Fashion Week Couture Designer, Anthony Manfredonia.

Video of the Day: Easy and Beautiful Chignon

Posted by    |    July 5th, 2012 at 7:00 am

Once in a while I come across a video tutorial that has the power to save you the money on a salon up-do, and I feel compelled to share it.  Remember the prom up-do we all used to yearn for?

Well, this is a classier, sexier, and sleeker version that works for just about any occasion: weddings, dinner parties, warm summer nights.  One of the best things about this tutorial in particular is how short it is…no ten minute long explanations. If you try this, I’d love to see your photos and how it worked for you!

How To Get Justin Bieber to Love You…

Posted by    |    July 4th, 2012 at 7:00 am

If you’ve been contemplating this since you first saw the teaser for the Bieb’s “Boyfriend” video, you should turn your attention to the lady who has managed to steal Justin’s heart. Rather than throwing darts at the photo of his lovely lady friend, how about taking some cues from her? Selena Gomez has always been bubble-gum sweet and sassy, but as she leaves her teens and becomes more accessible to her adult fans, she’s found a way to marry style, sex appeal, and girl-next-door freshness. How?  Let’s take a look….

1. Healthy Physique.

Miss Gomez keeps herself at a normal, healthy weight and embraces her natural curves.  She isn’t a twig, and can often be seen indulging in a sweet treat now and then.  Regular exercise and adequate sleep keep her metabolism in check.

2. Natural, easy hair.

On the cover of this month’s Elle magazine, Gomez shows off her beautiful locks.  One thing you’ll consistently notice about her is healthy, shiny, effortless hair.  Once in a while she will go all out for a premiere, but on most days you’ll find her hair down or pulled into a neat pony.  Low maintenance = guy magnet.

3. Not Afraid to Wear Color.

Selena Gomez in Red Dress at Elle July 2012 Cover

Too often, women feel that black is the only color that consistently looks slimming and classy.  Why play it safe when bold colors send a more playful, fun, and empowering message?  Red has been proven time and time again to be a favorite of men the world over, so take a page out of Selena’s playbook and give it a try.

4.  Rock Jeans and T-Shirt.

Not every moment calls for stilettos and Marc Jacobs.  It’s okay to be comfortable!  If you’re going to dress down, throw on a stylish casual handbag and a few simple accessories.  Nothing looks better with a delicate diamond necklace or designer watch than a simple white tee and jeans.

5. Never Underestimate a Smoky Eye and a Little Cleavage.

Again, not an “everyday” look, but when the occasion calls for it, bust out (no pun intended,) the black mini and kohl eyeliner.  A little highlighter on your cheekbones, forehead, and decolletage will give you a fresh, dewy appearance and highlight those sparkling eyes.  Skip the false eyelashes if you’re going to be expecting a goodnight kiss-it can look too spidery up close. Just smudge a black or gray eyeliner above top and below bottom lashes and pile on the mascara!

Who knows if this love affair with Justin Bieber will last, but Miss Gomez has a handle on how to snag a quality guy by balancing glamor with reality. Let’s all do likewise!

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise Divorce: How He Changed Kate

Posted by    |    July 2nd, 2012 at 8:00 am

Most of us aren’t surprised….Hollywood marriages aren’t exactly known for their longevity.  Five years of wedded bliss, one daughter, and the couch jump heard ’round the world later, Miss Kate has jumped ship.  Was it the age difference? Their crazy work schedules? The paparazzi?  Who knows, but this makes the third failed marriage for Tom, and numero uno for Katie Holmes.  I’m starting to wonder if she had a better shot at lasting love with fellow midwestener Chris Klein.

Say what you will about the former Joey Potter from “Dawson’s Creek”, but Katie is a very talented actress who has seemingly crept into the shadows since her marriage to Tom Cruise.

She did some beautiful ads for Ann Taylor (as did fellow celeb divorcee Demi Moore,) and fronted her own fashion line, Holmes and Yang, but her TV and film appearances have been limited.  After all, when “Dawson’s Creek” is what people remember most about you, (other than your famous marriage,) you’ve probably taken on too few projects since the show. Especially with the caliber of talent this girl has, right?

What is undeniable, however, is that marriage to Tom is what made Katie a style star.  She was always fresh and cute, but “cute” doesn’t quite fit the bill of a megastar’s wife.  With one fell swoop, she went from young and fun, to classy and cool.  Instead of friends from the midwest, Kate was sharing dinners with the Beckham’s…and you can’t just show up in Urban Outfitters for dinner with Posh Spice.

From tailored looks and kitten heels to a designer baby, Katie Holmes, take heart.  You may be losing a husband, but you’ve gained a fashion following that has put you on the map for the rest of your life.

A New Twist on “Fruit Cake”

Posted by    |    June 7th, 2012 at 3:04 pm

As someone who has recently cut way back on the massive amount of sugar that has been the norm for my entire life, a healthy alternative to sweets is always welcomed.  With June being a month of celebrations for dads and grads, birthdays, and weddings, cake is on everyone’s mind.  Since I am trying to skillfully avoid refined sugar-laden cakes, the discovery of this fruit cake made my heart sing.

how to make watermelon "cake". such a cute & healthy idea!

According to Rachel Rockwell at Bubbly Nature Creations who masterfully designed and photographed this delicious concoction, you can simply slice the watermelon and remove the rind.  Once you have your basic “cake” structure, use colorful fruits to embellish your cake.  You may need toothpicks to keep the ornamentation on the cake, so remind little ones to avoid swallowing anything they shouldn’t.

Need more proof that this is a bonafide winner when it comes to cake replacement therapy?

Heather at A Cupcake Love Affair created this gorgeous beauty.  She’s a pastry chef, so this lady knows her stuff when it comes to desserts.  If it’s good enough
for her, it’s good enough for me!
