Strawberry Chocolate Truffle Pie-Healthy and Delicious

Posted by    |    February 29th, 2012 at 7:00 am

If you haven’t heard of Chocolate Covered Katie, you’re about to.  This creative genius of a girl comes up with the most delicious recipes known to man…and they are crafted with organic ingredients. Yes, healthy desserts!  We’re talking low calorie and good for you.  The gorgeous photos on her blog alone make your mouth water, I promise you.  So many of my dessert posts cater to those who are either 1. NOT on a diet, or sweets with reckless abandon, so I thought it might be a nice change to feature a dessert recipe that is full of nature’s good stuff and won’t derail your Lenten diet.

Check out Katie’s Strawberry Chocolate Truffle Pie.

Doesn’t this make you crazy?  The mere sight of it makes me think of savoring it during a relaxing Sunday brunch or a cool afternoon on the front porch watching the wind blow through the trees.  But I digress…

Here it is again, in all its glory.  By now, I know you’re wanting to make some for yourself, and that’s perfectly normal.  Here is the recipe, courtesy of Chocolate Covered Katie.  Indulge and don’t feel one ounce of guilt.

Sip and Shop at the Bishop Arts Wine Walk This Thursday

Posted by    |    February 28th, 2012 at 7:00 am

Looking for a fun date this week?  I’ve got one for ya.

The Bishop Arts District is giving you a chance to sip  fabulous wine, experience beautiful art, and shop at your leisure during the Wine Walk. It’s set to take place this Thursday, March 1st starting at 6:00 p.m.

Attendees can purchase a wine glass from one of the myriad stands around the District for $10 and will be given a list of the shops participating as delicious wine stops.  (Sounds kind of a like a wine lovers scavenger hunt to me.)

This Wine Walk also features a pop-up art gallery called The Green House, which will be located at 403 Melba. The opening reception for Havana, Cuba: Te Vemos is from 6:00 to 8:30 and feature the works of photographers Rick Barton (the owner of sinfully delicious Hunky’s), Patricia Richards, and Martha Gordon.

Don’t miss out on your chance to sip, shop, and take advantage of the mildest winter weather we’ve seen in a long time!

Oscars Fashion: A Leg Up on the Other Awards Shows

Posted by    |    February 27th, 2012 at 2:37 pm

The Academy Awards are like the Super Bowl of Fashion.  It’s a bunch of hyped up predictions on who will wear what, and most of the super stars come prepared with their A game.  This year didn’t disappoint, with gorgeous, feminine colors and Old Hollywood glamor, which I personally loooooove.

As long as we’re talking about the varsity team, here are my picks for so stinking gorgeous it hurts the eyes:

Secrets Shared: Simple Style Tips You Can Do Today

Posted by    |    February 22nd, 2012 at 1:38 pm

I have a good girlfriend who is one of those types that has a useful tip for everything.  She’s half old wives tale and half modern woman, so her advice on how to make something simpler, work better, or look chic-er is usually right on the money.  She was kind enough to share some of her favorite tips with us, so here are a few that you may need to pass on as well:

If you want to save your dried out mascara,  add 4-5 drops of saline solution or eyedrops to the bottle. Insert your wand and stir it around.  This will re-energize the mascara solution and make it good to use again.

To organize accessories, buy a clear over-the-door shoe organizer and store your belts, scarves, little accessories, and even sunglasses!

Toddlers and Tiaras: Fashionably Fun or Just Plain Wrong?

Posted by    |    February 21st, 2012 at 7:00 am

As someone who has seen a few episodes of the TLC hit Toddlers and Tiaras I find myself confused about the premise of these child beauty pageants and what exactly they are preparing these little ones for in the future.  The “glitz” pageants are just that; glamor, glitz, sparkles, and a gallon of hairspray and spray tan on tots who usually appear to be bored senseless.  (Or dead behind the eyes. It’s hard to tell which it actually is.)

Is this a springboard for a future modeling career?  Not to be rude, but it doesn’t seem as if many of these girls are going to be tall, lithe supermodels, so unless it’s a career in commercial modeling they are after, probably not.

Is this training for future public speaking and appearances?  Possibly.  This experience performing on-stage does seem to give the little ones practice with making eye contact with the judges, carrying themselves with confidence before a crowd, and practicing poise under pressure.

Is this a tool to teach children the value of a dollar?  Yes and no.  These pageants are very expensive (like any other sport or hobby), and like most extracurricular activities, children don’t quite grasp the amount of sacrifice and expense involved.  However, they seem to understand perfectly what winning money means and how it can affect their chances to have more “stuff”. Art Inspires Fashion

Posted by    |    February 20th, 2012 at 2:13 pm

There’s something so captivating about beautiful art that sends your mind reeling.  How does it make you feel?  What does it remind you of?  Inspire you to go out and accomplish?

Though they are separate but equal, art and fashion are the perfect marriage of beauty and luxury.  When I came across this beautiful painting of the Eiffel Tower, I couldn’t help but conjure up visions of flowing gowns, pale colored jewels, and a soft, chic color palette.

What does your favorite piece of art make you dream of?

Red-E or Not: Sexy Siren Red Fashion

Posted by    |    February 14th, 2012 at 7:00 am

“Scientists at the University of Rochester have found that women who wear a red outfit on a date with a man will be treated more generously and hold his attention more carefully than women who don’t wear the color. Through five psychological tests, researchers show the color red makes men feel more romantic toward women. And the best part? Guys are unconscious of the affects the color plays in their attraction – all they know is that they want you. Bad.

This gorgeous red dress is $143 by Pepe Jeans.

Even more interesting: Male study subjects say they would spend more cash on a woman wearing a red shirt, than the same woman in a blue shirt. When wearing red, a woman was also more likely to score an invitation to the prom and to be treated to a more luxurious date.” These startling facts are courtesy of, and wow, do they make you think!
