Things I Love Thursday

Posted by    |    December 8th, 2011 at 1:45 pm

Sigh.  This time of year my wish list keeps growing and growing, knowing that I won’t ever amass the crazy fortune of goodies I’ve set my sights on. The only thing that makes me feel better is sharing some of these wonderful finds with all of you and seeing them bring a bit of spark into your imagination as well. So, here goes the Things I Love Thursday blog post with three of my latest obsessions:

This Cara Couture Leather Wrap Bracelet (available at Nordstrom for $28) is so colorful and cute that I want to buy a hundred and pile them on my wrists. They have such a chic, classic look about them-they can be worn with jeans and a tee or a dressy shift. Either way, I’m in love. (more…)

How To Wear Outerwear

Posted by    |    December 7th, 2011 at 7:00 am

This post is dedicated to our amazing Social Media guru here at YouPlusDallas, Laura Stillo.  Like many of us, she expressed her struggles with how in the world to wear outerwear.  (Remember when they used to be called winter coats? Outerwear sounds much fancier.) The problem with outerwear is sometimes we aren’t sure if it’s just a layering piece, or if it’s supposed to make the entire outfit.  Leave it on? Take it off? Add a belt?

Here are some tips on how to get the most mileage from your outwear, since it probably hangs forlornly in your closet most of the time.

1. Have Outerwear Staples.

These are the standard black and brown coats  you can throw on to add warmth to just about any outfit.  I’d pick a dressier version (such as wool, tweed, or yes, fur…faux or otherwise,) in one color, and then a more casual version in the other color.  By casual, I mean the ever-popular puffy jacket or a lightweight peacoat/tea-length version.  Use these when you are actually trying to stay warm while outdoors or in a very chilly place for extended periods of time. These are meant to brave the elements, and can or should be removed once indoors to reveal your fabulous outfit.

DIY Reindeer Thumbprint Ornaments

Posted by    |    December 6th, 2011 at 7:00 am

Here’s a project that many of us did growing up, but the paint colors and beautiful ornaments with which to decorate have certainly evolved.  Thumbprint reindeer ornaments are an easy project you can do with your kids, nieces, nephews, grandkids…or heck, by yourself on a day you’re feeling crafty.  Do a dozen or so of these and your tree will look more festive than Al Roker at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

According to littlebitfunky.com, you’ll need matte ornaments so your reindeer will show up better. (more…)

Lauren Conrad Does Holiday Style

Posted by    |    December 5th, 2011 at 3:26 pm

I’m totally transparent about my love for Lauren Conrad.  She’s stylish, savvy, approachable, and somewhat represents “every girl”.  She’s an entrepreneur who soared beyond her reality roots and found herself an inspiration for girls of all ages.  So, when her LC Lauren Conrad Holiday Collection for Kohl’s appeared, I have to admit that it made me pretty excited.  Not only are these outfits worth pinning on Pinterest (follow mine here), they are affordable, which is a major bonus this time of year.  I love that Conrad partnered with Kohl’s to come up with a fabulous mix of trendy and classic styles, all of which are easy to find at the dozens of Kohl’s stores in the area, or a mouse click away online.

*Notice that her “holiday colors” aren’t all red, green, gold, and silver. She’s chosen colors that will look fab all winter long, and those gray booties are to.die.for. And how does she make a chunky sweater look sexy and not bulky? Genius.

If you’d like to see a sampling of her new designs that have made my wish list, check out these photos.

She’s come a looooong way since “Laguna Beach“, don’t you think?

Lingerie Tips

Posted by    |    December 2nd, 2011 at 10:00 am

Today’s tip comes from the style gurus over at local online boutique,  The Blissful Gypsy, who know the importance of organizing your closet to make the most of what you have.  Let’s talk lingerie.  You probably have the basic everyday stuff: panties, bras, etc.  But what about the novelty stuff? The sexy stuff?  The va va va voom stuff? Most women keep these items crammed into a tiny drawer where it crinkles up and loses its appeal.  Worse yet, you probably don’t even think about it very often, since it’s “out of sight, out of mind”.

Instead of letting all that loveliness go to waste and stay buried inside of a drawer, how about buy some posh hangers and put those babies on display?  Well, not quite on display, but hanging neatly in your closet?  This keeps them in your mind’s eye and also looking fresh. You’ll find yourself more tempted to put on those sweet nothings when you see them begging to be worn, so do yourself (and your sweetheart!) a favor and get thee to a store with luxe hangers, like these satin padded versions.  You’ll look and feel sexier, and the end result may be burning more calories in the process!

Jingle Bells on Bishop…Celebrate the Holidays In Oak Cliff

Posted by    |    December 1st, 2011 at 7:00 am

It’s not like you need an excuse to go to the Bishop Arts District and shop till your heart is content, but the annual Jingle Bells on Bishop makes for an awfully nice one.  Oak Cliff’s shopping and dining village rings in the holidays with a three-day Christmas event. From today through December 3rd, children’s activities, caroling minstrels, photo ops with Santa, and of course, food and drink will help make the season bright.  Want a peek at what this beautiful part of Dallas looks like all lit up?  Check out this video we created that shows you what you’ll be missing if you don’t make it to Jingle Bells on Bishop.
