Apple Cider Punch: Drink Up!

Posted by    |    November 17th, 2011 at 7:00 am

Mmmmm….apple cider.  The smell alone can make you salivate and long for crisp fall nights under a blanket of stars.  Doesn’t the mere thought of apple cider conjure images of golden leaves, rolling hills, warm flannel blankets, and a roaring fire?

It’s Dallas and it’s still 80 degrees outside, but that doesn’t mean you can’t sip a little cider and bring the fall to you.  Better Homes and Gardens shared a recipe for Apple Cider Punch that is simple and delicious.  Won’t you pour a glass with me?

Apple Cider Punch (recipe from BHG)

6 cups apple cider
2 cups orange juice, cranberry-raspberry juice, or orange-mango juice (I used orange juice)
1/2 cup lemon juice
1 750-ml bottle sparkling white grape juice or sparkling wine

1. In punch bowl, large pitcher, or pitchers combine apple cider, orange juice, and lemon juice. Slowly add sparkling white grape juice or sparkling wine. Serve immediately.

Natural Beauty: Make Your Own At Home

Posted by    |    November 16th, 2011 at 8:18 am

I’m not really the type of girl who gets earthy and natural with her beauty products, but let’s be real here…there’s a lot of chemically bad stuff in things we put inside our bodies and on our faces.  Since our skin covers our entire body and soaks in what we put on it topically, shouldn’t we stop and think about what we are subjecting it to?

When I stumbled upon, I was enamored with their comprehensive list of natural beauty recipes and whimsical posts about all things cool.  (The sassy ladies behind this site even have an Etsy store with goodies that will make you fall even more in love.) Check out a short list of my favorite natural recipes for your beauty routine made from everyday foods that I pulled from their site, and then head over to to see the rest of the best. (more…)

What’s Hot This Holiday

Posted by    |    November 15th, 2011 at 11:26 am

What’s hot and what’s not….a phrase we hear on television all the time.  The hottest toy for Christmas always sells out.  The hottest electronics fly off the shelves on Black Friday.  So what’s hot in fashion this holiday season?  Well, I’m gonna dish.

According to the fabulous Allison Deyette at the fun blogging event in Miami I was telling you about yesterday, there are a few key items that you either need to have in your own closet this season, or you should totally gift to your loved ones to keep them on trend.  Without further adieu, here they are:

1. SPARKLE.  Lots and lots and lots of sparkle.  The holidays are a time of year when you can get away with excess sparkle, shine, and pure drama.  Whether it’s a sparkly sequin top like this Vince Camuto paired with winter white slacks or a black pencil skirt, it is eye-catching and still classic.

How To Save on Your Holiday Shopping

Posted by    |    November 14th, 2011 at 10:46 am

Last week I was invited to a blogger event in Miami by TJ Maxx and Marshalls. They were kind enough to fly me in town and showcase the amazing values they have in-store this holiday season.  Full disclosure: I love these stores and I’m a regular shopper there, so this event was something right up my alley.  Not only did I get to see a sneak peek of their holiday gifts, but the presentation was hosted by Allison Deyette, a national lifestyle expert you can see regularly on little programs like the Today show. Dressing For a Texas Fall

Posted by    |    November 14th, 2011 at 9:50 am

During a Texas fall morning you usually can get by with a light jacket and a scarf.

I’m wearing a jean jacket my dad just gave me that he’s worn since the 70′s and the briefcase he bought a week before he married my mom when he was in Hawaii for a military R&R.

By the time the sun has been up it gets pretty warm.  Take off some of your layers and enjoy the perfect temperature for a lunch on a patio.

I’m wearing a gown I bought from Neiman’s with no reason except I liked it.  I’m dressing it down with a women’s one-piece bathing suit underneath and a j.crew button-up tied on top.

More then likely it will rain at some point in the day.  So make sure you have a pair of wellies on hand and an umbrella in your car.

I’m wearing my favorite Marc Jacobs rain boots that I got from Barney’s and a huge Nike umbrella.

Now you’re set to properly get by for a Texas fall day!  Please visit Kittens and Pitbulls to see the rest of the pictures from this shoot.

Bold Eye Color This Holiday Season

Posted by    |    November 11th, 2011 at 10:57 am

There are some very nice perks to the holiday season that don’t have anything to do with gifts or shaving your legs less.  One of them is the opportunity to get bold with your makeup.  Really bold.  After all, summertime is when you want to look dewy, fresh, and minimal….with the searing heat, you don’t want piles of carefully applied makeup on your face.  Winter, however, is a time to experiment and go as big and brash as you want.  The holidays by nature call for a little more glitter, glam, and shine.  You want to look your best under the mistletoe! Take a “Me Day” in Dallas

Posted by    |    November 7th, 2011 at 11:50 am

Everyone deserves at least one day out of the year to pamper themselves. Whether it’s a full body massage or just a pedicure, a “me day” is often well-deserved. Dallas is full of destinations to make your “me day” excursion. Two of my favorites are the Exhale Spa at the Hotel Palomar and Hotel ZaZa’s ZaSpa

The ZaSpa, located within the chic, boutique hotel, is the perfect place to unwind. Take the elevator up to the second floor, walk among the walls lined with vintage Hollywood photographs and make your way into the ZaSpa. Relax in the unique decor of the Chill Room before being escorted into one of six treatment rooms.

One of my favorite parts of the ZaSpa is their weekly deals. I recently utilized the Tanning for $20 Thursday and left looking like I’d just spent Spring Break in Cabo (without the tan lines). My tan was impeccable and lasted throughout the weekend. Book your appointment in advance for your personal SunFX airbrush and keep your eye out for other ZaSpa deals including Talk Me Up Tuesday (receive any 50 minute treatment for $60 for simply “liking” Hotel Zaza on Facebook and mentioning a special code mentioned on their page), Waxing Wednesday, and Face-Off Friday.

I’ve already raved about the magic that is Core Fusion, but that was merely a sampling of all the incredible offers at Exhale Spa. This urban, wellbeing spa has a killer location next to the Hotel Palomar on Mockingbird and offers everything from spa therapies and acupuncture to yoga and Body Enlightening. They also offer  hair removal from the specialists at Completely Bare. Choose from professional waxing as well as permanent laser hair removal using an intense pulsed light source (IPL) which painlessly and effectively delivers results. They even offer a free laser hair removal consultation. Also on the menu is the highly exotic (at least to me) vajeweling with Swarovski crystals. I mean, why not?

Take a “me day”, bronze yourself into a goddess, whip yourself into shape, achieve a flawless complexion and smooth skin and even vajewel yourself if the mood strikes you.
