Slim Down With Invisibelt

Posted by    |    September 30th, 2011 at 12:04 pm

Ever feel like you need a belt to tighten your jeans and pants (or to help avoid a “plumber effect” when bending over,) but you don’t necessarily want the bulk and weight of a heavy belt and belt buckle?  I’ve struggled with this myself, and if you’re wearing your shirt untucked, it can create an unsightly bump in your mid-section.  One of the cool new gadgets designed to help with this problem is the Invisibelt.  I know, I know…sounds too infomercial-esque, but it’s actually a very clever idea that I can’t believe no one else thought of before now.  It’s only $20, and works like a bra clasp.

Now for the features according to the Invisibelt website:

The invisibelt is virtually undetectable and provides an instant slimming effect.

Thanks to its flat clasp design, this “No Buckle Belt” lets women wear fitted tops over pants or skirts with no trace of an unsightly belt buckle detected.

Its unique, adjustable waist size (sizes 0 to 14) makes the invisibelt ideal for the average woman. The plus size belt fits up to a 4X.

Available in two fashionable colors, Naked (Clear) and Noir (black).

The original slim belt eliminates the “all too familiar” back gap.

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely hate that “back gap” thing that some jeans have.  Even designer jeans have it, and it can result in showing the world your “coin slot”, so to speak.  Lucky Magazine, Shape Magazine, Life & Style magazine and many others have featured it, and the word on the street is that many celebs use it to keep their waists cinched without the unflattering belt bulge. Who knew? The next time you’re worried about showing off that new purchase from Victoria’s Secret unintentionally, you may want to check out Invisibelt and order one just to cover your, er…..backside.

In Dallas there is always a black-tie affair to attend.  It’s always a great idea to snag a gown whenever the opportunity arises.  I found this gem at an estate sale for around $30 and have only worn it once to an Oscar watching party I had at my house last year. (more…)

Abi Ferrin and the NFL Wives: Star Studded Combo

Posted by    |    September 27th, 2011 at 2:48 pm

This is Dallas; one minute it’s 100 degrees and the next it’s below freezing. That’s why it really didn’t shock anyone when five inches of snow and ice showed up last February 4th when famed designer Abi Ferrin and more than 30 NFL players’ wives took to the runway at the Fairmont Hotel.
The illustrious hotel was host to The 10th Annual Off The Field Players’ Wives Awards Banquet and Fashion Show in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This cause is especially dear to the hearts of parents everywhere, since St. Jude  means no family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance and families without insurance are never asked to pay.
Those who were lucky enough to attend this glamorous event got to rub elbows with Michelle Witten (wife of Jason Witten), Sherice Brown (wife of Tim Brown), and Romonda Jordan (wife of Randy Jordan). The always stunning Pat Smith (wife of Emmitt Smith) helped hand out several prestigious awards and proclaimed Abi Ferrin as one of her go-to designers when she wants to look her best.

Taking their turn in the spotlight, NFL players’ wives commanded the catwalk in Abi’s latest. See the uncut version of the show here:

What many may not know is women rescued from the sex trade in Nepal and Cambodia are an integral part of helping create Abi’s special line of USA-made garments. Employing people like these women and contributing funds to organizations who help these women are part of Ferrin’s mission, and in turn becomes a beautiful by-product of each purchase of her creations.
As a special surprise, the NFL husbands walked with their wives’ on the runway, as well as Miss USA 2010, Rima Fakih, and Miss Teen USA, Kamie Crawford.

As if that parade of stars wasn’t enough, a live and silent auction featured a rare 6.32 carat pink diamond donated by Worldwide Diamond Ventures and exclusively set by Olschwanger Designs.

To say this event was a success is an understatement; it cemented Abi Ferrin as an icon for glamorous women from all walks of life and generated badly needed proceeds for the nation’s top children’s cancer hospital.  Fashion and purpose…it’s a beautiful combination.

How To: What To Wear Over a Spaghetti Strap Dress (for under $100!)

Posted by    |    September 23rd, 2011 at 2:30 pm

Spaghetti strap dresses are something every woman has in her closet.  You wear them for parties, formal events like weddings, special dates…but how do you get that same dress to work in situations where those skinny straps aren’t always appropriate, like in the office or at church? Or how about when the air turns cooler this time of year?

There are a few ways you can style your spaghetti strap dress that will take it from night to day, with the easiest being to add a few layers.  Most women think a simple cardigan will do the trick.  Though a cardigan sweater is definitely a pretty option, it can look a little 1950′s June Cleaver.  So, to keep things looking fresh and modern,  how about mixing things up and adding a fitted blazer with rolled up sleeves? You can push the sleeves up or down, and wear a long necklace to add something special.  A skinny belt is also a great way to add a new look and dimension to the dress. An added bonus to this look is that you no longer have to wear a strapless bra or go braless…your straps will be hidden under the blazer and make you much more comfortable.

If you’re still wanting to keep things formal and a blazer is too casual, try wearing a pashmina over the dress to keep you warmer, look more polished, and add a pop of unexpected color.  By layering on a a few extra pieces and accessories, you can take a dress that was once for one purpose only, and make it multi-purpose in a no time at all.

Hooray!  Now that the weather is turning a bit cooler and football season is in full swing, you can indulge in those purchases that make the crisp time of year one of the most fun in fashion.  Here are a few must-have trendy pieces that will carry you into winter…and get you compliments from total strangers.

How To Wear A Plaid Shirt

Posted by    |    September 21st, 2011 at 7:00 am

Plaid shirts have a been a wardrobe staple for as long as anyone can remember, but it can be tricky to find a way to wear it without looking like a lumberjack.  In fact, many men have expressed their dislike for plaid shirts on women because they find them too masculine, so the key to wearing plaid is to make it feminine and fun. First, to soften the look, don’t be afraid to Try different materials. While plaid flannels are a great cool-weather staple, the print comes in a lot of other fabrics! From light-weight, sheer cotton to thick flannel, there are many options at every price point.

Next, Find tailored fits. Plaid shirts are notorious for looking boyish, and Nirvana grunge-esque, so When choosing a plaid shirt, it’s important to pick a top that’s not too roomy.  Afterall, you want to show off those feminine curves!  You can go a little longer or oversized if you’re pairing it with leggings or skinny jeans, but I particularly like this look. It’s soft and pretty, because this basic plaid shirt has a tailored fit.  It’s fitted in all the right places, and the colors are very traditional.  Pair with a dressy, short black shirt and tights and it keeps the plaid shirt the focus of the outfit, but still keeps things girly.  You can add to the sexiness of the the masculine/feminine contrast with a long gold necklace or string of pearls, and you’re appropriate for the office or a party.

My last bit of advice? Don’t pair your plaid with cowboy boots or a hat unless you’re going to be out on the ranch…keep it sexy and soft.

Rough Cuts: All in the Family

Posted by    |    September 20th, 2011 at 3:24 pm

The pride of Dallas fashion designers, Abi Ferrin, has a pretty special Papa.  Her father, Gene Ferrin, was a special guest at the 10th Annual OTF Players’ Wives Awards Banquet Show, titled “Women with Purpose.” Guests rubbed elbows with NFL stars of today and yesterday, while local celebs sashayed down the catwalk in Ferrin’s contemporary designs. With awards, live auctions, and a delicious brunch to be had, this Wyoming settler may have looked a bit different than the usual charity event attendee, but he had just as much heart and spirit.  Take a look at our rough cut footage of Papa Ferrin, a hunting and fishing outfitter, as he supports his talented daughter during one of the most exciting fashion events of Super Bowl Week 2011.
