FGI Dallas: Fashion & Lifestyle Awards

Posted by    |    November 29th, 2010 at 5:41 pm

On November 19th, FGI Dallas hosted their Fashion and Lifestyle Awards, with proceeds benefitting their scholarship fund.  I hadn’t attended this event before, so I was very excited to see the runway show with a handful of top fashion designers and hear speeches by the award recipients.  My chic “work date”, Elisabeth Jordan, accompanied me through the throng of stylish and sexy attendees, introducing me to interesting people like Cynthia Smoot and catching up with with our friend, Bri Crum.  I interviewed Terri Provencal, who I have to say is as friendly as she is classy.  Her enthusiam about the event was so contagious that by the time the awards began, I was penciling in the date for next year’s party.  My friend from Campbell Agency days, Amy Vanderof, was the Mistress of Ceremonies while wearing a stunning Abi Ferrin creation.  The highlight for me? Watching another one of Jan Strimple’s trance-inducing runway shows highlight local designers.  Watching those glamorous models shashaying almost made me want to put down the mini-cheesecakes I was devouring at our table. Almost

We will have our video of the event up soon, but for now, here are a few pics of the night.

Was I brave enough to get up early and shop at Northpark Center on the busiest shopping day of the year? You bet your Choos I was.

It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas…

Posted by    |    November 18th, 2010 at 8:41 pm

Is there anyone else around here that can’t belive it’s almost Thanksgiving? As I was walking through downtown today I noticed that Main Street Gardens has already begun the construction of the 60-ft. one of a kind Christmas tree.  It’s going to be beautiful once it’s lit up at the City Lights event this Saturday night.  If you want the whole scoop, check out our video update.

Since the stores around town have considered it Christmas since the week before Halloween, it’s time to make the most of the sales. If you want to narrow down all the retailers and their specials, a great place to start is http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/.    For techies, Consumer Reports has a list of the best Black Friday apps that you can download for up the minute information.  And lastly, big momma retailers Target and Amazon are having Pre-Black Friday sales that are posted on Black Friday Ads

Now that you know where to go for the best deal, all you have to worry about is remembering where you parked your car.

Blind Ambition

Posted by    |    November 17th, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Last April, I attended one of the most impressive events I’ve ever been to in Dallas. Blind Ukrainian couturier Sergey Ermakov from Kiev came to Dallas for “designing with a VISION”, benefiting the American Foundation for the Blind Center on Vision Loss. Sergey can only see 5% of what you can see and he is living proof that people can live successfully with vision loss – which is the theme of the event. His creations are inspired by art, literature, nature and history. As you can see from our sneak preview video, his designs aren’t just beautiful….they are stunning.  I’ve heard that when you lose one sense, another sense is increased.  This is most certainly true of Sergey, whose sight hasn’t deterred him from whipping up some of the most detailed, ornate, and visually drool-worthy couture this city has ever seen.  Our full presentation of the event launches this Friday, and you’ll want to watch highlights from the Jan Strimple-produced show over and over.  Ermakov may have virtually no sight, but what he can see in his mind exceeds human reason.

Partners Card Frenzy This Week!

Posted by    |    November 2nd, 2010 at 6:36 pm

So it’s the much aniticpated week of Partner’s Card, and I’m already going through the tough task of narrowing down the 750 stores in which I’ll use my 20% discount.  It’s wise to save up your purchases (especially the big ones,) and make them all during the week of October 29-November 7th.  Since You Plus Dallas is a sponsor this year, I feel especially tied to the cause.  If you don’t know much about The Family Place, then take a second to check out their website.  They have been saving lives for over 30 years, which explains why top-notch retailers and restaurants donate so generously to this program.  The purchase of one Partners Card provides an infant diapers for three weeks and one night of shelter for a woman and her child!  Shopping is nothing short of an aerobic exercise for many of us, and Partners Card is the perfect excuse to work that fashion muscle.  Lucky for me, one of my dear cyber friends, Real Posh Mom,  has made narrowing down this year’s prime selections easy as pie.  Check out her shopping picks-they gave me inspiration for my purchases and ignited my newfound love for Tory Burch Limited Edition Logo Rain Boots. Happy Shopping!
