An unlikely accomplishment

Last May I was given the green light to cover an event in West Dallas of a ground breaking ceremony. It was a celebration of an unlikely accomplishment. Students from Pinkston High School had successfully started an initiative to raise enough money to build a home for a fellow student, who had been injured just months before during a varsity football game. The unlikely aspect of the story is that they did it just 24 cents at a time. So here I was, camera in hand, capturing prominent people of DISD like Dr. Hinajosa and also Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert pushing shovels into the ground to commence the construction of this home. It was at that moment that I begun to realize the gravity of this story. (more…)
