I am not one to make bold predictions. But I put in multiple bets on the Giants to not only just cover the spread (+2 1/2 NE last I checked) but also defeat the Patriots in Super Bowl 46. Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest days of the year. I think it falls just under Christmas and just above the 8th night of Channukah. If you ever wanted to impress a lady or wow your best buddies, this is the day to have them all over to your place. Sit them in reclining chairs staring at an 80″ inch high definition TV while they scoop up their choice of guacamole or salsa…hell, even put some queso on the table, it’s Super Bowl Sunday!
I am not proud – but at the same time very proud – to be committed to the New York Giants bandwagon. Thanks to my Uncle, who is a proud northeast native, I have gracefully accepted my spot on the wagon. A month ago it was just a simple invite to see the Giants host the Atlanta Falcons at a local bar that I was told was strictly a Giants fans hangout. I have video proof that I was not lied to. I reluctantly accepted a #10 Manning jersey and cheered with half of my heart for the G-Men in the NFC Wild Card round. Seven Dr. Pepper’s and a couple dozen emphatic high five’s later, I was starting to feel the spirit and energy that the true fans of the Giants were feeling that day in the bar.
I returned the next week, same jersey, same uncle, new attitude. The Giants were visiting the league’s best team in Green Bay. The lethal pass rush that New York used to hold the Falcons to a pitiful two points the week before was used to slow down MVP Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Being a (terrible) Cowboys fan, this playoff success made me uneasy, but I couldn’t show any weakness. I want everyone to believe I am a true fan. (more…)
