Phil Steele has spoken. And he has an interesting perspective. His talent rankings certainly jibe with the resurgent Longhorn narrative. A few of his picks are premised more on name familiarity, cumulative starts, and inference than pure evaluation, so I’ll offer some of my thoughts as well.

DeLoss Dodds made the announcement at the Big 12 Spring meetings on Thursday. Two games is a certainty for the fledgling network, three is “likely.”

The two already slated are the August 31st home opener against New Mexico State and a November 2nd home game against Kansas. Though the third candidate has not been disclosed, I’d bank on the October 3rd game @ Iowa State.

Hook ’em.

The third commitment in three days and 14th overall for the 2014 class is a big one for Texas. Take THAT, SEC. Is it fair to say we own you?

Beck is a 6’3, 230 MLB that also played tight end on offense. He 126 tackles and six sacks last year and had offers from Stanford, Florida, FSU, and Miami.

Check out the video from yesterday’s announcement. This is how you do it. No hat games or All-Star game song and dance. After committing to UT, Beck goes on to compliment the entire staff at Texas, including the janitors. Texas only hires the best janitors. Andrew is a smart, well-spoken kid that should represent the University well.

I told you this game would be worth a watch, didn’t I?

Too bad I didn’t listen to my own advice. I admit: I was a bad fan. I came home at about the 10:00 mark. Walking in, I read about the nightmare on Twitter and decided against firing up the DVR/ESPN2 to catch the remaining horror.

Luckily, I got a text from a friend in time to tune into the final minute and overtime. So yeah, I missed the comeback (to be watched tonight), but caught the Myck Kabongo circus shot and the J’Onions! closeout in OT.

Ball don’t lie: I got chills at the end.
