Little kid gets boost to rescue basketball from behind hoop in Fresno State-Boise State game

Posted by    |    February 28th, 2017 at 10:28 pm

This is the hero we needed.

The greatest play of the college basketball season was not made by a senior leader, a one-and-done freshman, or a breakout player of the year candidate. Instead, it was made by a young fan in Fresno State’s game against Boise State on Tuesday.

This is a hero’s origin story in seven parts.

1. The ball gets stuck behind the basket

2. It’s like, really, really stuck

3. The old “use a broom” trick isn’t working

4. Here’s an idea: grab a kid!

5. HE’S GOT IT

6. High-five for our hero

7. Finally … MVP chants

You deserve it, little man. Thanks for saving the day.

Durant asked to be taken out of the game after Zaza Pachulia accidentally backed into his leg.

Kevin Durant suffered a hyperextended left knee in the first minute of Tuesday’s nights game against the Wizards according to the Warriors. He’ll undergo an MRI on Tuesday night and will not return to the game. It is unclear at this time how much time, if any, he will miss.

Durant was asked to be taken out of the game after Zaza Pachulia accidentally backed into his leg while fighting for a rebound with Marcin Gortat. You can see the play here which happened in the first minute of the game. Durant tried to play through the next couple of minutes but eventually headed back to the locker room.

It’s possible that Durant could miss an extended period of time as the Warriors will probably also be extremely cautious with his return. The Warriors have already clinched a playoff spot and do not need to rush him back at this point.

Steve Kerr spoke after the game regarding Durant’s injury and that it is still unknown how severe it is or how long Durant will be sidelined.

Jets release former All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis 9 days after his arrest

Posted by    |    February 28th, 2017 at 7:10 pm

Revis had three years and over $33 million left on his contract before being cut.

The New York Jets have released four-time All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis, nine days after his arrest in Pittsburgh, the team announced on Tuesday night.

The dynamic cornerback, now 31 years old, will be a free agent heading into the 2017 season. He’ll have trouble attracting suitors after an off-field incident that has left him facing multiple criminal charges. An alleged fight in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood has the former All-Pro charged with with four felonies: two counts of aggravated assault, one count of conspiracy, and one count of robbery.

Those issues, combined with a lackluster performance in coverage last fall, could wind up leaving the the veteran defensive back unemployed for a long stretch this spring.

Revis was one of the game’s best cornerbacks in his prime. He started his career in New York after being drafted No. 14 overall out of the University of Pittsburgh. He made an immediate impact in his first six years with the franchise, being named to four Pro Bowls, earning three first-team All-Pro nods, and winning AFC Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2009.

His reputation as the league’s top cornerback led to a six-year, $96 million contract with Tampa Bay in 2013, but he only spent one disappointing season with the Buccaneers before being released. He signed with the Patriots soon after and restored his value almost immediately, earning his fourth — and potentially final — All-Pro selection with New England. His sole year in Foxborough ended with a Super Bowl ring, and he re-joined the Jets in free agency the following season.

Revis’s return to the Big Apple hasn’t been as fruitful as his first stop. Age and a history of knee injuries robbed him of the speed that made him so effective. He only recorded one interception in the 2016 season, and that only came in a meaningless game at the end of the year. He also got burned in coverage in some high-profile situations, leading to some unflattering headlines across NFL media.

He will still count $6 million against the Jets salary cap this season, but had no dead money remaining on his contract afterward.

NFL draft 2017: Order for full 7 rounds

Posted by    |    February 28th, 2017 at 6:08 pm

The order for seven rounds and 253 picks in the 2017 draft is set.

The 2017 NFL Draft is set to begin Thursday, April 27 with the Cleveland Browns scheduled to pick first and will end Saturday, April 29 with the Denver Broncos set to pick last.

There’s still plenty of time for trades to shake up the order, though, and there will inevitably be plenty of trades during draft weekend. In 2016, there were 25 trades made after the beginning of the first round and a similar amount is likely in 2017.

But for now, the order is set with the Browns slated to start the selections, followed by the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears, respectively.

The order for the full seven rounds and 253 picks are as follows:

Colts defensive tackle David Parry arrested for alleged drunk golf cart theft

David Parry was arrested on seven charges, including DUI, auto theft and resisting arrest.

Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle David Parry was arrested on a number of charges early Saturday morning in Scottsdale, Ariz., including for suspicion of auto theft and driving under the influence, according to the Indianapolis Star.

According to Scottsdale police, someone called claiming to have picked up three passengers from a bar in their street-legal golf cart used as a taxi. But when the passengers were dropped off, one hit the driver on the head and stole the cart.

Parry, 24, was later identified by the victim as the assailant and was found by police when they were called to a nearby location for a hit and run collision when a golf cart crashed into a gate. Police say that Parry was drunk and antagonized officers with slurs and insults.

He was arrested by police on seven charges, including auto theft, robbery, resisting arrest and driving under the influence.

“We are aware of the reports and are gathering more information,” the Colts told the Indianapolis Star in a statement Monday night.

Parry was a fifth-round draft pick of the Colts in 2015 and has started all 32 games of his career. He’s one of a handful of NFL players who have been arrested in Scottsdale over the last year, along with Terrell Suggs, Michael Floyd and Jaelen Strong.
