For anyone who’s ever felt the aching guilt of enjoying a cold beer, burger, or frozen custard with friends while their four-legged companion sits in solitude at home, all that is about to change when Mutts comes to Uptown in late May.

Located on the former Hank Haney Golf Course land, the modern day “roadside” burger stand by Josh Sepkowitz and Kyle Noonan of Freerange Concepts (Bowl & Barrel, Sunset Lounge, The Rustic) will serve burgers, hot dogs, frozen custard, shakes, beer and wine for lunch and dinner as well as breakfast tacos, bagels and coffee for breakfast.

The Rustic Will Bring Live Music to Uptown’s West Village

Posted by    |    January 22nd, 2013 at 12:42 pm

What do you get when you combine the boys behind Bowl & Barrel, celebrated chef Sharon Hage, Dallas businessman Brian Manion, Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Pat Green, and Uptown’s hip West Village? Something amazing obviously; but more specifically, The Rustic, a full service restaurant and bar with a “backyard” feel and live music. West Village has been in desperate need of a live music venue, and who better to fill the gap than this talented crew?

JoJo Eating House & Bar Opens for Dinner Tonight

Posted by    |    November 19th, 2012 at 10:30 am

JoJo Eating House and BarThe updated Euro eatery, JoJo Eating House & Bar opens Monday, November 19 with chef/owner Laurent Poupart at the helm. If a menu that includes lobster, oysters, tuna tartare, artisan pizzas and a salad with truffle dressing and deviled eggs doesn’t immediately grab your attention, Poupart’s resume certainly will.

The Strasbourg native began working at age 14 at Le Crocodile, a three star Michelin restaurant in his hometown. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of Strasbourg, Poupart served in the army as a private chef for the General of the French Force. The young chef went on to work at several Michelin restaurants under such Master Chefs as Gilles Goujon and Jean-Marie Gautier.

His first American venture was at Les Celebrites, a restaurant awarded the AAA Five Diamond award and “Best Restaurant Overall” in New York City by Zagat . Clientele included stars such as Pierce Brosnan, Jane Fonda and Tina Turner.  Since 2005,  Poupart has been working as a private chef for clients such as Mike Moreno (his partner in JoJo), Gerald Ford, Kevin Costner, Cindy Crawford, Kenny G, and Hollywood Producer Joel Silver.

You’d think the Big D is just lucky to add such an accomplished chef to its list of culinary masters, but for Poupart, opening a restaurant in Dallas is a dream come true.

“I have traveled a lot in my life, but when I came to Dallas 3 ½ years ago for the first time, I knew it was the city for me,” said Poupart.

Designed by the well-known restaurant design firm Plan B Group, the same group that just did East Hampton Sandwich Company, JoJo Eating House & Bar was designed using simple, sophisticated and clean lines in order to create a residential feel.

JoJo Eating House & Bar will open tonight for dinner only, with lunch service beginning mid-December. Brunch service and pizza delivery will begin January 2013.  JoJo Eating House & Bar is located at 2626 Howell Street, Dallas, Texas 75204.

Dallas Beer Week is Upon Us

Posted by    |    November 9th, 2012 at 3:52 pm

craft beerI remember my first beer. I actually really do. But it wasn’t until I went abroad that I was introduced to some of the most amazing craft beers and realized that there’s a whole wide world of beer opportunity out there and that I wouldn’t always have to drink natty light or Keystone.

That’s why Dallas Beer Week is so great. Starting tomorrow, November 10, DWB is striving to introduce more Texans to the world of craft beer. If more people demand it, we’ll have more of it. DWB also focuses on supporting the local establishments who support craft breweries and raising money for charities like Pints for Prostrates and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children at various events throughout the week.

Coal Vines: great pizza. epic sandwich.

Posted by    |    February 24th, 2011 at 12:29 pm

From the same owners of Nick & Sam’s, Joseph Palladino and Phil Romano, Coal Vines serves delicious food in a cool environment. Mostly known for their classic thin crust pizzas, they also throw in some other mouth-watering surprises.

Upon arriving to the Uptown location, the friendly hostess let us choose whether we wanted to sit outside on the enclosed patio or inside. We chose inside, where we sat towards the back. The atmosphere was young and hip—but the lights were a little too dim and the noise was pretty high. But that’s what you get in a smallish restaurant in Uptown.

The service was good, but the food was even better. It was tough to decide which appetizer we wanted—would it be the bruschetta with oven-roasted tomatoes and goat cheese? Or the homemade mozzarella sticks stuffed with prosciutto? We went with the latter. The mozzarella sticks were yummy, but lacked prosciutto. In fact, I’m not sure I ever tasted any prosciutto at all. Deceiving. Oh well.
