Posted by    |    August 15th, 2011 at 9:59 pm

The ultimate foodie event of the year is upon us! KRLD’s Restaurant Week begins today. This is a great time to have a try restaurants that’s prices may have intimated you. Also, many restaurants have items on their menu that are only offered during Restaurant Week, such as Chamberlain’s Duck Confit Spring Rolls. You have to try this!

It’s a perfect time to book summer dining deals at 130 regional hot spots opening up tables, and currently accepting reservations for this special giveback opportunity supporting the North Texas Food Bank and Lena Pope Home the week of August 15-21, 2011. The event continues through September 4, 2011.

The event showcases North Texas’ thriving culinary scene, offers tasty three-course prix fixe dinner priced at only $35/person (tax, tip and drinks billed separately). The icing on the cake is that you help support local fine dining establishments and two great charities – making a $7 donation to either the North Texas Food Bank in Dallas or Lena Pope Home in Fort Worth. Last year they raised over $600,000 for these great organizations.

BONUS TIP: Make a purchase of $25 or more at any Central Market location, to receive a certificate redeemable for a FREE fourth course valid at participating restaurants.

Where will you be dining? Enjoy & make your reservations at the participating restaurants here!

Lucia is Coming!

Lucia Kitchen

I had the privilege of attending a soft opening/practice dinner for Lucia, the new Italian neighborhood restaurant being opened by David and Jennifer Uygur this past Saturday. Word on the street (and from the Uygurs) is that the formal opening will be soon. Let me tell you-it can’t come soon enough! Bishop Arts (where Lucia is opening at 408 W. 8th Street next to Dude, Sweet Chocolate) and all of Dallas are in for a huge treat. This place is phenomenal!

It is the classic neighborhood Italian restaurant that Dallas so desperately needs more of IMHO with top quality food and wine served impeccably in an intimate local setting. With Lucia, it starts with the gracious Jennifer bringing her hosting and wine selection skills to the front of the house. (more…)

Can you say, “Molto Delizioso?”

That’s Italian for very delicious and that perfectly describes the new Ristorante Nicola on Preston Road.

I was already a fan of the location at The Shops at Legacy, so I was happy to be invited to a luncheon at the Preston Road location this week.

Although we chose from a set menu of three entrees, I had the opportunity to taste all three:  Involtini de Pollo (chicken breast with fontana, sage, gorgonzola, polenta, asparagus and red wine sauce); Salmone Grigliato alla Senape (grilled salmon, sauteed baby veggies and mustard sauce); and, my fave, Raviolotti di Vitello (spinach pasta stuffed with veal, spinach, ricotta in sage butter sauce).  Mouth watering yet?

The pasta was tender, and the sage butter sauce mixed with the veal stuffing brought on a big “mmm-mm” several times during the meal.  And you can’t go wrong with big, fat parmesan cheese shavings either!

The new Nicola differs in atmosphere from the Plano location – a more elegant feel than the rustic interior up north.  I kept taking mental notes on how I could recreate the gorgeous light fixtures with my hot glue gun and very limited knowledge of electronics.

And finally, I can’t say enough about the very professional, attentive and courteous staff.  Everyone from the valet to the waiters, managers and event sales person made our happiness their first priority.
