After a 3 year sabbatical, Mico Rodriguez is back with a new restaurant concept, Mr. Mesero (waiter in Spanish). The name represents the humble, yet impeccable, service you can expect as a guest or team member. His reemergence in the food world has been a journey of self discovery and love. Mr. Mesero is a very personal project to Mico and special attention will be paid to creating one-of-kind cravings with a local hang-out flair.
The grand opening is scheduled for 11.11.11. The menu is being cultivated to embody dinner at Mico’s home. He describes the food as “American grit with Mexican glitz,” an eclectic fusion of Tex-Mex meets America’s diverse melting pot. That means you’ll find the classic Mexican food that he’s known for along with… finger lickin’ ribs and contemporary sushi rolls. The intimate 12-table dining room is designed by “Ralph Lorenzo,” another Mico”ism” that is Ralph Lauren “home” with vibrant south of border colors and organic materials. The old Burger Girl location on McKinney hasn’t had it so good!
Mico’s comeback hasn’t been easy, he’s had some ups and downs and continues to evolve. (In fact, the name, Mr. Mesero, was inspired by my daughter and niece calling him Mr. Mico.) Adversity builds character, I hope it rebuilds Mico’s legacy and passion for serving others. The future is yet to be determined, we’ll see if it’s worthy of Judge Clay Jenkin’s bet.
