Breaking News: Highland Belles Director Christie Crummel Resigns

Posted by    |    April 1st, 2011 at 9:47 am

It could be an April Fool’s joke but an email that just arrived in my box says this:

Dear Highland Park High School Families,

Highland Belles Director Christie Crummel will resign at the end of this school year to pursue other career opportunities. We greatly appreciate Ms. Crummel’s seven years of leadership at Highland Park High School. Under her direction, the Belles have continued to achieve at the highest levels and to enjoy a reputation as one of the top dance and drill teams in the nation. Ms. Crummel will always be a part of the Scot family, and we wish her well in the future.

In the upcoming days, we will begin searching for the next Highland Belles Director. We will work together with the Belles and their families to establish the criteria that will guide us in the hiring process.

Thank you for your continued support of the Belles and Highland Park High School.

 Respectfully,

 Walter Kelly

Principal

Scots Amazing Season Ends, 45-21

Posted by    |    December 1st, 2010 at 7:52 am

Before the 2010 Highland Park Football campaign began, know-it-all media types were forecasting that this team would be lucky to go 7-3. The Scots had too little experience and too many good teams to play, not the least of which was the area’s #1 ranked team, Everman. From that first game until tonight, the gutsy gang whose motto was “Whatever It Takes” piled up thrilling win after thrilling win. At least three of the games — Everman, Sherman, and Wiley — will go down among the most exciting Scots games ever. This team kept alive our incredible 63-game home winning streak. It gave us a joyous Homecoming victory. It earned Highland Park an extra playoff game at Highlander which delighted local fans. This team earned a District 10-4A Championship, then a Bi-District Championship, then an Area crown. It celebrated the extraordinary success of its coach, Randy Allen, with his record-setting 135th win as HP’s leader. And lastly, tonight, it gave our team and our band, cheerleaders, Belles, and fans a truly singular experience of playing in Cowboy Stadium.

Read it here. A retired doctor who graduated from Highland Park High School in 1939 but never received his diploma, received it today.  Great story.

Scots Win a Thriller, 27-21

Posted by    |    August 28th, 2010 at 9:33 pm

In the waning days of a hot Texas summer, Highland Park and Everman served up a scorcher at SMU’s Ford Field tonight. In a rock ’em, sock ’em back-and-forth battle, the Scots showed incredible character to prevail over one of the state’s highest ranked teams. It was everything you want in a high school football game. Some observations:

1. Jake Howeth is a mega-stud. He literally did it all: passing, running, tackling, and he even served up an incredible 62-yard punt when it was desperately needed.

2. Our defensive secondary played like hosses. Brant Green, Blake Poston, Holt Pearlman and Nick Mouch kept a very speedy set of Everman receivers in check and applied some bodacious hits.

3. Our coaching staff is the hidden ace in every game. They have our players so prepared. At the end of the game, as the Bulldogs had breakdowns, miscues, and loss of focus, the Scots stayed disciplined.

4. Fan support was off the charts. The Blue & Gold Nation PACKED the west side of the stadium, outnumbering the Everman crowd 50-1, and stayed loud and proud the whole game. What a magnificent start to the season! Look for some great video from the You+Dallas team coming this week.
