Dip into Dive

I’ve been having a mini love affair with Dive for a while now, and I think it’s time I finally spoke out about it. I love it so much. I love the coastal cuisine, I love the soothing white and mint interior and I love the fact that you can dip pretty much every entree (love to dip).

But I’m not just going to go on some rant about how awesome it is. There are some negatives. Mainly, the prices. Honestly, it’s a little too pricey for me to go as often as I would like to (I just can’t bring myself to pay $12 for a little ahi tuna every day). But when you think about it, there’s really no where else like it. It’s tacos, ceviche and wraps are unmatched in my opinion. So while I wish the prices were lower, I’m willing to shell out a little extra change to keep my coastal cuisine taste buds satisfied.

Too cool for school

Posted by    |    July 8th, 2011 at 10:39 am

Before we know it, little brainiacs everywhere will be heading back to school, leaving Mom with a little extra time on her hands.  Oh my, my, my…however will she spend it?  Might we suggest by getting a head start on updating your cool-weather-wardrobe? Just in time to shop the Autumn 2011 collection, Stella McCartney will  soon be opening the doors to her new, Highland Park Village diggs.  And fashionistas all over Dallas are giddy with anticipation. Here’s to hoping her kids line will be coming along for the ride.  Of course, considering that my toddler, Max, has recently decided that wearing clothes is no longer his thing…it might be wise of me to splurge on something for myself, instead. Come on, can you really blame the little guy? It’s hot out, right? Right?

So get ready, you stylish socialites. In just a few short months, label lovers with a particular fondness for Stella’s take on cutting-edge fashion, can delight over the eye candy she’ll be bringing to Big D, proving yet again, that Dallas is a designer shopping destination.  Yee-haw!

Core Fusion at Exhale Spa

Posted by    |    July 6th, 2011 at 11:56 am

I stumbled upon the magic of Core Fusion completely by accident. I headed over to Exhale Spa under the false illusion that I would be taking part in a beginner’s yoga class (there’s no shame in being a beginner, okay?), but was abruptly denied my soothing, amateur class and told that my only option was Core Fusion. I had to buy special grippy socks was informed that this particular workout would focus on every part of my body. I was terrified.

I put on my grippy socks, grabbed a matt, ball, belt and weights and awaited my fate. I would either fail miserably or receive one of the best workouts of my 21 years in existence. I’m happy to say it was the latter.

Fall in Cinematic Love with Inwood Theatre

There are so many reasons to love Inwood Theatre: the love seats, the beautiful murals, the amazing popcorn and concessions stand, one of Dallas’ best martini bars and the undeniable greatness of being able to bring that martini into the theatre with you.

Inwood Theatre has a long-standing history in Dallas. First opening in 1947, the charming theatre was able to maintain that charm over the years thanks to an extensive renovation in 2005 when Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner took over Landmark Theatres.

Celebrate the 4th of July

The fourth of July is one of my personal favorite holidays because there are so many activities to enjoy on this patriotic and fun filled weekend.  Many Dallasites escape to various lakes for boating, tubing and just getting away; however, there are still many events occurring if you prefer staying in the city. The annual Park Cities Parade joyfully weaves around the neighborhood stringing along numerous floats, fancy cars, horses and other buggies. Residents unite together to celebrate and watch their friends and neighbors participate in floats supporting their teams, clubs, and families.

If you want to continue the celebration, a large picnic at Goar Park follows the parade where friends and families join together to eat, drink and play games.  If you want to celebrate the holiday more intimately, many people in HP, and allover Dallas, host barbeques and pool parties to soak up the sun and enjoy the day. A perfect ending to a wonderful day, watch a fireworks show at night. Almost all country clubs around Dallas show off their own beautiful array of fireworks. Enjoy this holiday and don’t forget to wear your red, white and blue!

One Stop Summer Shop

Looking for a new shop to fulfill your summer wardrobe needs? Adeline on Lovers Lane is your solution. A previous peer of mine, Graeme Gehring, debuted her cozy yet trendy boutique this past May. After graduating from The University of Oklahoma in Spring 2010, Gehring decided to combine her passion for fashion and interest in retail to launch her very own store. The young entrepreneur traveled to markets in Atlanta, Chicago and Los Angeles to carefully select merchandise for Adeline. After asking Gehring what her target and objective were for opening Adeline, she stated, “I wanted to open a store with affordable clothing because I have always shopped for high quality yet affordable clothing and I don’t think there are enough stores in this area that serve that purpose. My price point is set to engage my target consumer – young women between 17 and 26. This age group of women usually doesn’t have a lot of extra money to spend on expensive clothes so they seek high quality yet inexpensive clothing.” One feature that sets Adeline apart from most local boutiques is Gehring creates most of the jewelry herself.

As an avid Adeline consumer, my favorite aspect of the store is its welcoming ambiance and original merchandise.  Adeline provides fashion forward customers with charming jewelry, clutches, undergarments and clothes ranging from tank tops to bandage skirts.  Whether you are attending a casual BBQ or going dancing, Adeline has everything you will need for the summer.

Adeline is located at 4412 Lovers Lane in Park Cities.

Anti-’bucks: Drip Coffee on Lovers Lane

Posted by    |    June 13th, 2011 at 1:26 pm

Sometimes, you just don’t want to go to Starbucks. (Shocking, I know.) Perhaps you feel they’ve gotten to know you a little too well. Perhaps you fear large crowds. We’ve all found comfort in the familiarity of the ‘bucks, but every now and then we crave something new and different in our coffee experiences.

This is where Drip Coffee comes in. This little beacon of roasted hope on Lovers Lane combines the two things I cherish most in a coffee shop: a quality product (they hand roast their coffees on site) and an inviting atmosphere. Read the rest of this entry »
