The creative minds of Oak Cliff have a vision for our neighborhoods. A vision where medians are lush with shrubbery so cars slow down and pedestrians have a safer way to cross the street. A vision of an active, alive, and engaging community, where residents actually enjoy being outdoors.
At Better Block, cafes with outdoor patios lined West Davis Street and hundreds of people came to see the achieved effect: when a street is tailored to residents instead of industry; community blooms. “[It] created a totally different atmosphere for a block,” said a Better Block attendee. A plethora of city ordinances were broken, but for the right reason: making a lasting impact on the community.
