Tate’s is Turning One and Offering Their Amazing Cocktails on the Cheap

It’s hard to imagine that my go-to recommendation for anyone who wants to get a good drink is only a year old. Tate’s truly is one of my favorites. The neverending trips to Idle Rich and Renfields on a Friday night are fine, but when I get a chance to walk just a few more feet down to Tate’s, it’s always a welcome change. From the welcoming Zebra head to the top notch cocktails that aren’t too expensive, it’s no wonder this place has become a staple for nights when all you want to do is get a good drink with a friend.

Tate’s is celebrating their first birthday by serving up their signature drinks all day for only $5. Definitely try their most popular drink, the Blackbird Julep, or my personal favorite, the Aviation Cocktail. Happy Birthday, Tate’s!

Looking for a Way to Celebrate Halloween in Uptown?

The Nodding Donkey 

Ditch the candy corn and head to The Nodding Donkey in your most creative duds for a Halloween party complete with costume contest. Fishr Pryce will DJ your drink special-filled evening in one of the best bars in Uptown.

Cru Wine Bar

Here’s another excuse to bring out that cat costume for the 10th year in a row. Wear all black and receive %50 off of Cru Wine Bar’s new fall menu. They even brought out some especially spooky named wines like “The Velvet Devil”, “Poizon” Armida and Poggio Anima Asmodeus. If it’s in a wine glass, I’ll drink it.

 

The Londoner

If you get bored at The Nodding Donkey, just walk a few steps to The Londener for a live DJ, $3 Jameson and a costume party starting at 10 p.m. sharp.

Trophy Room

Uptown’s first bar with a mechanical bull is also the starting point for an epic pubcrawl starting at 5 p.m. More information here.

 

Avenu

If you prefer bottle service over a bar crawl, House of Horror at Avenu featuring DJ Scooter is for you. The party starts at 10 p.m. with a $10 cover charge for VIP.

The Old Monk

The Old Monk’s annual pumpkin carving contest is back in action. For $10 you get a pumpkin, a carving kit and a free pint of Guinness, Smithwicks or Black & Tan. The Old Monk will match that $10 and send the proceeds to the North Texas Food Bank.

Let your creative juices flow because they’re going on Facebook. The Old Monk will post the picture of your pumpkin on their page where you and your friends can vote for the best. First place gets $75, second gets $50 and third gets $25.

Edible Alcohol

If thirst were geographical, mine would be the Sahara desert. And water is the last thing that will quench my sand dune of a mouth. Even though it is the middle of the work week, all I can think about is alcohol: martinis to be specific. But not just run-of-the-mill, as-seen-on-Mad Men, what’s-hiding-in-your-Grandfather’s-liquor-cabinet martinis. Keith Thomas LaBonte, Molecular Mixologist, is the creator of the most innovative and delectable martinis. And they can be found at Four Lounge in Uptown.

Chances are you’ve walked by Four Lounge and had no idea. You’ve also probably Googled it, thought it sounded really cool, attempted to check it out, couldn’t find it, and ended up walking one block to TABC. I know this because I have encountered all of the above in my hunt for an alternative to my usual watering holes. (more…)

Praise for Four Lounge, or why you should probably go treat yourself to a martini ASAP

Like, tonight. Keith Thomas LaBonte’s Four Lounge opens at 8pm, and there is an empty seat at his bar of delicious creativity. Provided that you can get there fast enough.

When one enters a bar with a Flip camera and starts chatting up the owner, most people will come up to said person and talk to them out of curiosity. Especially if said owner is making all of his coolest creations. Even more especially if said creations involve popcorn, whoopee pie, or bell pepper. But not together. Of the uniquely gregarious, and mostly curious dudes who chatted me up, recording device in hand, here is what they had to say about Four Lounge. (more…)
