In five hours, I want to be drinking one of these. Well, if I’m being honest, I want a personal bartender to follow me around the city, crafting cocktails just for me each time I feel a pang of dehydration. Which, as the weekend approaches, happens quite frequently.

It has been porch weather all this week in Dallas; as such, I’m craving a bourbon-based drink with splashes of citrus and ginger. Enter the Front Porch Cocktail, born from the insights of a calm summer’s day. Not that it’s summer, but it feels like it is, so, roll with it.

Front Porch Lemonade

Yields: One Cocktail

Ingredients:

4-5 mint leaves

1 1/2 oz. bourbon

3 oz. lemonade

1 oz. ginger syrup

Mint sprigs, for garnish (more…)

If thirst were geographical, mine would be the Sahara desert. And water is the last thing that will quench my sand dune of a mouth. Even though it is the middle of the work week, all I can think about is alcohol: martinis to be specific. But not just run-of-the-mill, as-seen-on-Mad Men, what’s-hiding-in-your-Grandfather’s-liquor-cabinet martinis. Keith Thomas LaBonte, Molecular Mixologist, is the creator of the most innovative and delectable martinis. And they can be found at Four Lounge in Uptown.

Chances are you’ve walked by Four Lounge and had no idea. You’ve also probably Googled it, thought it sounded really cool, attempted to check it out, couldn’t find it, and ended up walking one block to TABC. I know this because I have encountered all of the above in my hunt for an alternative to my usual watering holes. (more…)

Praise for Four Lounge, or why you should probably go treat yourself to a martini ASAP

Like, tonight. Keith Thomas LaBonte’s Four Lounge opens at 8pm, and there is an empty seat at his bar of delicious creativity. Provided that you can get there fast enough.

When one enters a bar with a Flip camera and starts chatting up the owner, most people will come up to said person and talk to them out of curiosity. Especially if said owner is making all of his coolest creations. Even more especially if said creations involve popcorn, whoopee pie, or bell pepper. But not together. Of the uniquely gregarious, and mostly curious dudes who chatted me up, recording device in hand, here is what they had to say about Four Lounge. (more…)
