Shut Up and Eat Your Pie

Make your way down to Mama’s Daughter’s Diner in the marvelous Dallas Design District (man that was a mouthful). Loud, packed, and full of down-home soul, Mama’s Daughters is just what you want in a diner.

My server (nametag: Susie Q, a true diner diva!) was brash, sarcastic, and didn’t take any BS. She took my order with a “Honey, I don’t have all day” comment that was simultaneously unexpected, hilarious and added to the overall experience.

Come hungry: the meals are loaded up with your choice of multiple mouth-watering sides. Let’s hope for your stomach’s sake that you had a light breakfast.  In fact, come prepared with an elastic waistband; it’ll save you the embarrassment of having to loosen your belt post-feast.  Put down the fried chicken and try to save room for dessert. The pies are plump triangles of chocolate, coconut cream, and lemon with tall meringue that tantalizes your taste buds. And if anyone asks you to split a piece, I recommend respectfully declining that offer and keep it all to yourself. There will be no crumb (and no belt loop) left behind.
