Introducing Ornare

Posted by    |    May 30th, 2013 at 2:39 pm

Apparently this is the year for international companies to launch their second US outposts right here in the Dallas Design District. Just a few short weeks ago Adriana Hoyos, the Ecuador design powerhouse, opened its doors in the Decorative Center and now we’re celebrating the grand opening of famed Brazilian interiors brand Ornare just a few doors down.

If you missed the showroom’s official grand opening here’s a little bit about who Ornare is and what you can expect from the neighborhood’s newest showroom.

Ornare is the first Brazilian brand to open in the Design District and with their opening they bring an exciting, South American take on kitchen, bath and closet design to the designers and shoppers of Dallas.

The company was founded over 25 years ago and has since established itself as one of Brazil and South America’s most recognizable design companies with a clean and modern aesthetic and impeccable attention to detail. With showrooms located in every major city in Brazil and a booming design business in Miami, Ornare is betting on Dallas as their next major American market and judging from the success of their opening, I’m inclined to agree with them.

In July 2011, Hicks was selected out of 10,000 applicants to appear on ABC’s Shark Tank, and was offered $500,000 by Cuban and Corcoran in exchange for a share in his company.  Since then, Hicks has hit the ground running and now has a full online operation as well as an assembly plant in the Design District at 1937 Irving Blvd.

Your Guide to this Weekend’s Art Openings on Dragon Street

Posted by    |    May 14th, 2013 at 1:28 pm

This weekend is nothing short of a blockbuster weekend for art openings on Dragon Street and with so many to choose from, it’s going to be difficult to plan your evening. My three can’t-miss shows are below but I’ve tried to include a more complete list of the openings at the bottom. See you on Saturday!

Laura Rathe Fine Art

Laura Rathe Fine Art is still a relative newcomer to the gallery scene of Dragon Street but the gallery continues to host incredible exhibits and their opening on Saturday is no exception. This weekend Laura Rathe hosts an exhibit of the photography of Steve McCurry. While you may not recognize McCurry’s name, you’ll certainly recognize his iconic images which have been featured in National Geographic dozens of times, as well as many other magazines throughout the world. He has an eye for the “unguarded moment” and is internationally famous for his incredibly moving photography of various cultures and landscapes. If you can’t make it Saturday, the gallery is also hosting a lecture and book signing with McCurry on Thursday, May 23rd at 6:30pm. Don’t miss the Dallas debut of this incredibly talented photographer.
