D FrontRow LIVE Returns this Thursday

Posted by    |    May 29th, 2012 at 3:32 pm

We loved D FrontRow LIVE last Fall, and now it’s time for round two. The “One-Night High Brow/Low Brow Blowout” will take place this Thursday, May 31, at 8:30 p.m. at the Dallas Contemporary and feature pop-up theater, music, food and drinks.

Portland-based dance/pop band STRFKR will be performing, as well as Parisian soul/funk DJ, Onra, and Austin’s DJ Ben Aqua. Upstart Productions will be staging a pop-up theater piece, and Kevin Jacobs of Oliver Francis Gallery will be curating two sound installations, in addition to the Erwin Wurm, Zoe Crosher and Claude Leveque exhibitions currently displayed at the Contemporary. Guests receive free drinks from Grey Goose Cherry Noir and Bud Light Platinum with their $15 admission, and food trucks will be posted out to front to satiate any drunk munchies and/or to help you sober up.

Tickets are still available and can be purchased here.

Reserve a spot at Bridge Bistro’s Wine Dinner

Posted by    |    May 26th, 2012 at 5:50 am

On June 5, Bridge Bistro will host a wine dinner featuring the Italian winery Antinori. A representative from the vineyard will be present to guide diners through the evening as they try five different wines, each with a different course.

The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with heavy hors d’oeuvres and rosé and sparkling wine. The seated dinner will start at 7:00 p.m. and will feature pasta with a white wine, meat with a red, a cheese platter with Antinori’s famous Chianti Clasico and a dessert wine with dessert. The first two wines are new to the market, so attendees will be among the first to taste them!

Menswear inspired fabrics from Pindler and Pindler

Posted by    |    May 22nd, 2012 at 5:50 am

I am a pretty girly girl, so it’s really no surprise that this blog puts a lot of focus on feminine furnishings and fabrics. Today, I’m proud to say, will be the exception! Pindler & Pindler recently launched their Gentlemen’s Retreat Collection, a new exclusive line that features fifteen marvelously masculine designs.

Girly as my tastes may be, I can’t help but be drawn to the classic patterns and cool colors featured in this collection. The interesting weaves and textures are reminiscent of classic men’s suiting. In fact, the line was inspired by traditional menswear textures, including houndstooth, glen plaid, birdseye, Donegal tweed and matelasse. There is something rustic, yet polished about these prints that I really dig.

Maybe it’s my Austin roots, but I am also totally intrigued by the burnt orange and grey colorways in which the collection is offered. I would have never thought to pair burnt orange with grey; it’s so chic! I even put together a Pinterest board inspired by the line.

Featuring textured solids, coordinating stripes, a midscale pattern, and two statement designs, this collection has a great variety to choose from and coordinate with.

To view more from the Gentleman’s Retreat Collection, you can visit the Pindler & Pindler Showroom located in Suite 715 of the Dallas Design Center or

A Bit of Bragging: Alta 1900 Lofts and 1400 Hi Line honored with industry awards

Posted by    |    May 20th, 2012 at 5:50 am

I’m not one to brag.  Just kidding, that was a total lie. I am always bragging about the cool things going on in the Dallas Design District! I’m like a proud parent. Today, I am very excited to tout the accomplishments of two very special Design District businesses. 1400 Hi Line and 1900 Lofts were both recently recognized with important industry awards for which they fully deserve a blog shout out!

Let’s start with Alta 1900 Lofts. The Design District apartment complex, which opened in late 2009, was recognized by the National Apartment Association (NAA) as a PARAGON award winner. The annual awards program recognizes the multifamily housing industry’s top communities. Alta 1900 Lofts was selected from hundreds of communities across the nation as a top project less than five years old and with over 150 units.

Alta 1900 Lofts is truly a great place to live. Beyond the amenities, the staff (hi Blake!) is super friendly, and they’re always hosting fun resident events, like their happy hour at The Meddlesome Moth on Tuesday evening. I’ve enjoyed many an evening with friends, lounging by their awesome outdoor fireplace, roasting marshmallows for smores and enjoying the company of neighbors! (more…)

Design Center Sample Sale Showroom hosts open house Wednesday

Posted by    |    May 16th, 2012 at 5:50 am

In January, I introduced readers to the Dallas Design Center’s Sample Sale Showroom. To refresh your memory, eight of the center’s premiere showrooms joined together to host an ongoing sample sale, offering furniture, rugs, accessories and more at deeply discounted prices.

Four months later, the sale is still going strong, offering up a constantly changing supply of designer furnishings.

This Wednesday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Sample Sale Showroom will host an open house. Designers are invited to shop the sale while enjoying light refreshments that will be provided throughout the day.

It’s a great excuse to make your way down to the Design District to look for a deal and check out what’s new in the center while you’re here!

The Sample Sale Room is located in Suite 200 of the Dallas Design Center, between George Cameron Nash and E.C. Dicken.
