Buon giorno from Italy! Today Kate and I will be venturing from lovely Tuscany, up north to the water filled streets of Venice!

How to Dine Like an Italian

Posted by    |    April 28th, 2011 at 5:50 am

Europeans and Americans normally think of pasta when they think “Italian” food, but there is so much more to it! A traditional Italian meal structure includes at least four to five courses and usually takes place during special occasions such as weddings or birthdays. Italians tend to eat out with large groups of friends, family and business associates for traditional meals. Bread and wine are always on the menu, no matter what the setting!

While modern day Italians have evolved to only one or two courses to fit their lifestyle and schedule, let’s have a little fun and explore a traditional Italian meal in all it’s glory from beginning to end!

Map of Italian Wine Picks

Today Kate and I are traveling from the crowded streets of Rome to Florence in the heart of Tuscany! Tuscany is known for its rich history in art, rolling landscapes and, of course, its wine! When planning our trip, Kate and I had our heart set on reserving at least one day to enjoy a wine tour in Tuscany. We decided to skimp on accommodations on this stop and splurge on a killer wine expedition through Chianti and Montalcino. (more…)

The 411: Four Tidbits from this week in LOL

Posted by    |    April 17th, 2011 at 5:50 am

It was a busy week in Lower Oak Lawn! Check out these four need-to-know tidbits from the week’s festivities.

{LAUNCH} Last night, Kellie Cashon of Cashon & Co. Interiors celebrated the launch of her new online shop, ShopCurio.com, with a curiously chic soiree at the Stoneleigh Hotel penthouse suite. The guests were as well dressed as the suite, which was adorned with beautiful flower arrangements (done by Cashon herself!) and accessories from the shop.

{LEARN} Designers and showrooms wrapped up a week of continuing education at last night’s Spring Thing Fling , a progressive cocktail party that took guests from Bellini’s at Luxury Living to a cooking demonstration at bulthaup, then desserts and a raffle drawing at TKO Associates. The buzz of Spring Thing was the spring tablescape set up at Henredon, which was designed by Shane Walker. Check out more pictures on Facebook for your Easter table inspiration!

{EXPLORE} This Saturday is the annual Dallas Art Dealers Association (DADA) Spring Gallery Walk. I know I will be out exploring all the new exhibits on display across the Design District and the city! Also, many Design District shops are staying open late for the occasion so stop by Ceylon et Cie, Shoretell Design or any of the other participating showrooms.

{RENEW} In honor of Earth Day, next week LowerOakLawn.com is going green, bringing you an entire week of green design tips, tricks and products. Recharge this weekend and get ready for a week of renewable resources!

Colley’s new exhibit, Streams of the Trinity, includes works evocative of Dallas’ beloved tributaries to the Trinity River…Turtle Creek, Elm Fork, White Rock Lake and the Trinity itself.

Colley works with oils, watercolors, and several other mediums, but his true passion is for watercolors which are reflected in this exhibit. The exhibition will be on display through May 31, 2011.

Spotted: BoConcept Pixel Rug in Real Simple

I was flipping through my April issue of Real Simple magazine last night when I ran across a great article on Affordable Area Rugs. My eye immediately went to the cool color blocked carpet which just happened to be from the Design District’s own BoConcept! A quick google search and I learned that their Pixel rug also comes in grey for those who are looking a more neutral option.
