Lakewood

It’s like New York City minus Central Park.  Santa Monica without the pier. San Antonio sans the River Walk. Austin without the wierd.  A Lakewood with no Matt’s Rancho Martinez gives many of you a feeling similar to the one you get when you dream you went to school with no pants on. Something’s missing. And it’s just not appropriate.

Plans are underway for Mi Cocina, the popular and ever-growing M Crowd restaurant chain, to make it’s new home where Matt’s has lived for over two decades, as I’m sure you’ve heard and maybe even shed a tear over.  Or have you? Are you already giddy with excitement over the smell of Sunset style fajitas sizzling right down the street from your house? I’ll admit – I have mixed feelings. On the one side, there’s the Bob Armstrong dip, and on the other – a Mambo taxi.  It’s hard for a girl to choose!

I’m curious – what team are you on?  Team Matt’s or Team Mi Co?

Here’s a typical conversation with my husband that I have a feeling will play itself out again in a couple days.

Him:  Uh-oh, you’re carrying shopping bags.  What did you buy? Me:  Don’t worry, honey…I saved SO much money. Him:  I don’t get it.  How did you save money if you spent money on whatever’s inside those bags? Me:  I hit the sales!  I saved 60% on this top and 35% on this planter for the back yard!!! Him:  I see.  And I like your logic.  Soooooo…(lightbulb moment)….I have a half-off voucher on a round of golf…(pause…big smile…) do you care if I go save us some money this afternoon?

Dallas Children’s Theater does it again.  And by “it” I mean their uncanny ability to orchestrate top-quality productions cast with professional (union) actors, staged amidst highly complex, in-house set designs crafted by magicians which are destined to transport you into a imaginary world of knock-your-socks-off entertainment that will keep both you and your kids engaged for 90 minutes of fun.  WHEW! That was a long sentence. Oh and the part about magicians….I can’t technically prove that little tidbit of info – but once you see a wonderland of imagination on DCT’s stage, you’ll believe it too.
