Saturday, the third day of the “Definitely Dallas!” Grand Opening Experience at the Omni Dallas Hotel, meeting planners were given the opportunity to attend a variety of tours throughout the city. The Old American Golf Club, What’s New in Dallas?, Dallas Arboretum, a Shopping Excursion and a Downtown Dallas Tour were on the list for planners to choose from.
“I was born and raised in Dallas, then left when I was about 18 years old. This is the first time that I’ve come back as a tourist to see how Dallas has changed,” said Austin resident Ray Lindner.
The Downtown Dallas Tour started off at the Grassy Knoll before taking a tour of the Sixth Floor Museum. Members of the tour group were fascinated by JFK and asked many questions related to the assassination and conspiracy theories. “I was actually a student in Dallas when the assassination occurred,” said Lindner. “For me…it’s a step back in time.”
The tour proved to be an emotional experience for many members of the tour. “I remember November 22, 1963,” recalled an attendee from Atlanta. “I remember what I did that afternoon. I’ve always wanted to come and see this.”
Meeting planners had lunch at Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse, walked around the West End, and browsed shops such as Wild Bill’s Western Store, filled with cowboy hats and leather goods.
The tour concluded at the Dallas World Aquarium, where the meeting planners were shown the best places to hold events at the aquarium.
“It was a good tour, a lot of things that [are here] I hadn’t seen, or didn’t know about before,” said the Atlanta-based attendee. “It’s been a great weekend.”
“I’m looking forward to [the Gala] tonight,” said Lindner, “The hotel has been phenomenal, all of the activities have been really interesting and fun.”
Following dinner, an after party will take place at 10pm in the Trinity Ballroom, featuring performances from Tim Halperin and Country music superstar Jack Ingram.
