Uncle Uber’s Sammich Shop

Posted by    |    September 20th, 2011 at 1:54 pm

The YouPlus staffers love going about town for lunch and I steered the group to Uncle Uber’s Sammich Shop yesterday.  It’s brand spankin new and already had a good sized lunch crowd chowing down some yummy sammiches.

The seven of us ordered all over the menu and each made pleasant sounds as we enjoyed our meal.  Reid Slaughter looked joyful when he saw his Smokin Turkey was real “thanksgiving style” turkey and not deli sliced.  Brandon Carmichael had to call his wife and tell her how good his Bacon and Goat Cheese was.  We all stared at Justin Ransom‘s Roast Beef with provolone cheese and said “next time”.  Jun and Jonathan made healthier choices with the Blackened Fish and Veggie BunME and Laura Stillo and me chose the grilled Chicken Breast.  With Hand Cut Fries all around dipped in Smokey Habanero Ranch we all agreed that this will become our consistent go-to lunch spot.

My favorite moment was when one of the prideful employees looked into the dining room full of people and just lit up with a smile ear to ear.  As a Deep Ellum home owner it is so great to see all these new restaurants come in and give us no reason to travel outside of our four streets to eat anything we’re craving.

Keep it up Uber!

Deep Ellum Art Festival

Posted by    |    March 29th, 2011 at 11:13 am

Last year, I was a woman without a plan at the Deep Ellum Art Festival.  I walked in awe, going from one artist’s booth to the next.  I was over run with original art and I couldn’t make a decision.  This year, I’m prepared and you can be too!

1.  Check out the Performance Schedule. This schedule lists everything going on at the Pegasus News Stage, Dallas Observer Stage, Singer/Songwriter Stage, ArtLoveMagic Artists Alley, and at the Art Bar.

2.  Get familiar with the artist. By clicking this link, you can look up the artists and learn more about them.  It also helps by knowing your art needs at home and coming with a direction. (more…)

Sushi in Deep Ellum?

Posted by    |    June 25th, 2010 at 3:47 pm

On a girls’ lunch adventure, my Deep Ellum/Uptown Girls Posse decided we wanted to try something new.  Sushi sounded great, but honestly the thought of Sushi and Deep Ellum didn’t seem like a natural pair. Can delicate Japanese food art co-exist with the charcoal grittiness of urban backstreets?

We found our answer on Elm Street, through the doors of Lemongrass. We were blown away.  Quiet elegance in the front. Giant sprays of orchids. The patio in the back was like walking into a vacation spot with lush greenery, while overhead netting and air misters protected you from the harsher side of Mother Nature.

When our tuna tower appetizer arrived we giggled from its deliciousness. Every bite was a tiny gift.  Okay this might sound dramatic, but it’s completely true.  And our rolls were equally fantastic.  To finish it off you get a little piece of lemon cake, with the perfect amount of sweetness.

Places like Lemongrass make me so proud to say it’s in Deep Ellum, my neighborhood.
