Zach Warner. To know him, is to love him, and this is what I know about him: He will do absolutely anything for a photo-op! …including, walking into the middle of Medieval Time’s moat with his bare feet, wearing a child’s armor set during his 32nd birthday celebration (pic here)! He wears his heart on his sleeve, but he’s not scared to get it dirty. He stores one of the most creative minds I have ever met! (If you need to create anything, company name, logo, photo shoot, website, party, art, tattoo, just have a five minute conversation with this man and you’ll be set.) And, when the time is right, ask him to relive some of his memories as a MTV videographer, they’re always entertaining!
Read on for my interview with Zach!
Sarah Beauregard: What’s your relationship like with Deep Ellum?
Zach Warner: I have been coming to Deep Ellum since 1994, from the age of 16. Deep Ellum is kind of like a second home to me. I began to spend every weekend here all through out high school and college. Eventually ended up moving here. I guess you could say I’m a lifer.
SB: You’re a freelancer, what kind of work are you doing and looking for?
ZW: I look for a wide range of work, from video and web to graphic design. I have spent the last 11 years working in the multimedia field, so I’m pretty diverse. Lately I have been leaning more towards producing and creative direction and less hands on design of projects.
SB: Everyone that comes over to my house, loves to look at your 3D piece with the glasses! How much does one of your pieces cost and where can they find them?
ZW: You can find my work at www.zuluwhiskey.com and prices vary to the size you want, and if you want an original. I’m fair with my pricing, you can grab prints from $40 to $300.
SB: Where is your “go-to” place in Deep Ellum? What keeps you going back?
ZW: My go to place changes often, since I’m a.d.d, but right now I’d have to say its going to be LaGrange. It’s new and pretty, just a nice vibe. I haven’t had bad service or attitude yet. What keeps me coming back mostly is I can skip to the bar from my house.
SB: You have some pretty out of the ordinary tattoos. Which one makes you laugh the most? …mine is your band-aid tattoo above your knee! I would of sworn it was real!
ZW: I think I’m right there with you on the band-aid tattoo. Everyone who sees it has to take a second take and try to rub it off. Not bad when you gotta hot lady rubbing your leg every once in awhile. I also love my coi fish with Henry Rollins style punk rock glasses on or my Baby Stewie.
SB: You just got back from a fun trip in Europe. What did you miss the most about Dallas?
ZW: Right now I can’t say that I missed Dallas, since when I got back it was 10 billion degrees out. But I missed two things mostly, my friends (I have the best, if you wanna fight about it bring it on! They will back me up! hahah) and being able to get around the cities with out being the foreigner.
That wraps up our time to getting to know our new neighbor. Feel free to give him a high-five when you see him around! …And, don’t forget to check out his site, Zulu Whiskey!
