Cheer Station for 3 Day Walk

Posted by    |    November 7th, 2011 at 2:38 pm

This past weekend Melissa Scogin organized the 2nd annual Deep Ellum Cheer Station for the 3 day walk.

We cheered on the walkers on their 59th mile to get to the final 60.  These women (and men) were so inspirational.  A few grabbed a water or Red Bull and others just blew right on past us with cheering and clapping.    Read the rest of this entry »

Deep Ellum Urban Gardens

Posted by    |    October 5th, 2011 at 11:28 am

I have such exciting news about Deep Ellum.  They are taking their gardening to a whole new level!  The greatest part about it, is that it’s not going to happen unless we all pitch in to make it come to life.  And if there’s one thing that Deep Ellum does best, it’s coming together to make things happen.

Now, I kill every plant I have ever owned, so I am so thankful that I can help by spreading the word and donating to the fund.  They need to raise $25,000 and luckily that is feasible with the amount of heart that Deep Ellum residents and fans have.

We have Kelly Clemons to thank for all of this.  It is her vision and determination that has gotten us this far!  If you want to volunteer or join a committee contact Kelly at Kelly@deepellumtexas.com

Check out this link to see their Mission and Vision statements and other ways you can help!  Let’s show this community what we have!!

Uncle Uber’s Sammich Shop

Posted by    |    September 20th, 2011 at 1:54 pm

The YouPlus staffers love going about town for lunch and I steered the group to Uncle Uber’s Sammich Shop yesterday.  It’s brand spankin new and already had a good sized lunch crowd chowing down some yummy sammiches.

The seven of us ordered all over the menu and each made pleasant sounds as we enjoyed our meal.  Reid Slaughter looked joyful when he saw his Smokin Turkey was real “thanksgiving style” turkey and not deli sliced.  Brandon Carmichael had to call his wife and tell her how good his Bacon and Goat Cheese was.  We all stared at Justin Ransom‘s Roast Beef with provolone cheese and said “next time”.  Jun and Jonathan made healthier choices with the Blackened Fish and Veggie BunME and Laura Stillo and me chose the grilled Chicken Breast.  With Hand Cut Fries all around dipped in Smokey Habanero Ranch we all agreed that this will become our consistent go-to lunch spot.

My favorite moment was when one of the prideful employees looked into the dining room full of people and just lit up with a smile ear to ear.  As a Deep Ellum home owner it is so great to see all these new restaurants come in and give us no reason to travel outside of our four streets to eat anything we’re craving.

Keep it up Uber!
