What We’re Listening To: ‘Dreams’ by Taken By Trees

Posted by    |    July 25th, 2012 at 3:18 pm

Realistically, I’m at my desk working (very hard I might add!), but mentally, I’m drifting away to a secluded island drinking a marg and finally getting tan. That’s what the first single, “Dreams”, off of Taken By Trees‘ forthcoming album, Other Worlds, has done to me. Maybe it’s because the song was recorded in Hawaii. Maybe it’s because I desperately need a tan. Or maybe it’s just what Taken By Trees’ mellow vibes do to everyone.

Taken By Trees is the name Victoria Bergsman adopted for herself after parting from The Concretes in 2006. She worked with Peter Bjorn and John‘s as guest vocalist for “Young Folks“, and wasted no time beginning to record as Taken By Trees. Her newest album, Other Worlds, is available for pre-order now and will be released October 2 on Secretly Canadian.

Granada Theater Serves Delicious PB&J

It’s so indie in here, was my first thought. Followed by love it. Peter, Bjorn and John rocked the Granada Theater last Thursday night as Part Two in the epic Three-Part “Dallas Indie Crawl” which started out at AT&T Performing Arts Center’s Patio Sessions for the breezy and upbeat Smile Smile performance and ended with DJ Sober’s Big Bang at Beauty Bar. Best Thursday ever? Probably. Also, game 2 of the Mavs-Heat finals was steadily underway and Granada satisfied Twitter requests by putting the game on the lobby TV. Fans were seen periodically taking breaks to run and check the score (for good reason – did you see that last quarter?!).

Picture the concert as a play with three acts: two intermissions disguised as the “end” of the show were really just sporadic breaks for the sandwich to go backstage, and you know, hang out. And reappear onstage to the encore chant “PBJ. PBJ!” The first ‘ending’, where Bjorn gave a thumbs up before exiting and promptly returning to the stage, seemed way too premature and proved to be a running theme during the night. (more…)
