Sarah Jaffe does not live in a jewelry store

All that I want in life is to see Sarah Jaffe. At 9:12PM outside of Momo’s, a very long line forms for Dallas’ songstress, and there is seemingly no way I will ever make it inside the venue. Except I have a determination similar to an upstream swimming salmon; that, and a press pass. A genuine product of society’s crooked nature, Jaffe’s craft is a gritty and eloquent truthfulness.

To explain Sarah Jaffe, I need something more than a precious stone reference. ‘A diamond in the rough’ means about as much as a bird in the hand equaling roughly the exact amount of two similar birds residing in a bush. I need a phrase that resonates. Something that highlights Jaffe in bright yellow, separating her from a textbook paragraph of black-and-white singer-songwriters. (more…)

Linkin Park at American Airlines Center – When cancellations work in your favor

I’m not saying he’s not a man’s man, but Chester Bennington used to drive a sparkly PT Cruiser. I know this because he used to live next door to my good friend, and he did not utilize his parking garage. But perhaps he doesn’t need a fancy SUV; he has the grandeur of a world tour, and an arena full of cheering fans that live for the sensation that is Linkin Park.

A show postponed by a bout of illness, the size of the audience at American Airlines Center has not been thwarted. “You ready to have some fun?” Chester asks the crowd. As the band opens with “Faint,” his vocals prove to be a bit ahead of the beat, but unharmed, nonetheless. (more…)
