As the warmer temps begin to melt away any memories of winter, they make way for something much, much better: summer concerts. Thanks to Chevy Music Showcase, Dallas’ lone specialty beer garden and little brother to historic Granada Theater, Sundown at Granada is going to be filled with some of the best summer concerts the Dallas local music scene has to offer with a live show on the last Thursday of every month.
“We’re excited to see the North Texas Chevy Dealers embrace our local music scene and appreciate how they’re investing resources to showcase local bands and help draw more attention to the crazy amount of great talent right here in our own back yard,” said Granada Theater’s Mike Schoder.
Here are some of the first bands that have been released. We’d come up with our own descriptions, but the ones from the press release were way too on point to be messed with.

The fundraising powerhouse Art Conspiracy, otherwise known as “Art Con” to those in the know, is returning with over 150 Dallas artists, local music and a lot of noise. Each artist creates a completely one-of-a-kind piece from Art Con’s signature 18×18 plywood boards. The result? A brutally awesome gamut of ideas plastering the walls of whatever space Art Con chooses to invade that year.
It’s a full day of great Indie music (The Antlers, Burning Hotels, The Eastern Sea, etc.), 50 breweries and over 120 different kinds of beers. Now we know what we’re doing this Saturday. The beers are from all over the world but over a quarter of the selection are from Texas breweries. That’s right, y’all!

As we recently named Fort Worth outfit Burning Hotels’ single “Beard” to be our top local song of 2011, we haven’t been able to stop crushing on them in the New Year. This Saturday, January 14, YouPlusDallas will be at Granada Theater catching the catch-all at the Local Edge Presents Burning Hotels with Mon Julien, Air Review and Menkena. Our camera crew will be hovering just below the stage, an arm’s-length away from Chance Morgan and Matt Mooty’s shiny shoes, capturing the glory on film for you, our darling audience, and transforming it into a certified Artist Interview Session.
We’ve hung out with Burning Hotels a lot, but have yet to devote an Artist Interview Session video to the sex wave rockers, until now. Here are some fun times we’re currently reminiscing on as we anxiously await this weekend’s events. Check it.

It’s been a remarkable year of local music for us here at YouPlusDallas; we’ve had the pleasure of hanging out with a variety of talented Dallas/Fort Worth songsters. Here are our Top 5 Local Songs of 2011.
5. Seryn (This Is Where We Are) – “We Will All Be Changed”
Seryn’s vocal harmonies never cease to will listeners into a comatose serenity. A favorite of Paste Magazine and fronted by Dallas Observer Music Awards Best Male Vocalist winner Trenton Wheeler, Seryn’s “We Will All Be Changed” should make you cry tears of emotional ecstasy, and we promise to not judge you. Remember how excited we were after the Burning Hotels CD release party at Dada? We essentially had one of the greatest nights of our lives, made even better when Chance Morgan handed us a copy of his band’s latest self-titled album, released today on iTunes. We spent the weekend with it on repeat, and you’re about to do the same.
The eight track album is a rush of 80’s new wave, featuring cool, happy tracks like “Beard” bearing dance-infused choruses making it impossible to not shake your shoulders. Their sound is a consistent follow-up to 2010 album Novels with chill, catchy hum-along songs you’ll sing without really knowing what you’re saying.
“Shattered visions of what we had/Those days are gone” sing Morgan and Mooty on “Days Are Gone,” a lament on an invulnerable youth run dry. Track “Allison” could be the opener of a John Hughes film, Molly Ringwald dancing in her room as she gets ready for prom, dressed in a John Galliano poofy enough to mask the flask fastened to her thigh. MAN, last night’s show at Club Dada REEKED of the Dallas Observer Music Awards nominees (better known as #DOMAXXIII on the Twittersphere). And when I say reeked, I mean the air was stained with the sweet sweet fragrance of a badass music community (that, and incense).
Air Review and the Burning Hotels packed Dada for the CD release of the Fort Worth Sex Wave band. In terms of DOMA nominees (and in general), this is how much awesome concertgoers were surrounded by last night:
Club Dada
Parade of Flesh (Talent Buyer – Dada)
Spune Productions (Talent Buyer – Dada)
Venue
Josh Florence
Local Music Advocate (City Tavern, Dada, Homegrown Festival)
Air Review
Group Act
Best Song “American’s Son” (video aired today on KXT)
