John Adams Quintet

*As an accomplished acoustic and electric bassist, John Adams is one of the Southwest’s most versatile and in-demand musicians and band leaders. He currently leads various performing groups and has performed with a wide array of artists, from vocalists Mel Torme and Rosemary Clooney, to jazz artists such as Woody Herman, Randy Brecker, Chet Baker, Clark Terry, and Dave Liebman.

Self-Portrait Transformations

May 4, 2013; 1:00, 2:00 or 3:00 p.m.

*Learn basic block-printing techniques to create a series of self-portraits inspired by the idea of transformation. We will use works of art from the DMA’s collection and the special exhibition Cindy Sherman as our starting point.

C3 Art Studio

{Admission is free: Limited to the first thirty-six participants. Pick up tickets outside the Art Studio in C3 thirty minutes before each workshop begins.}

 

Music & Masterpieces

Cindy Sherman

May 4, 2013; Performance at 1:00 p.m., Tour at 2:00 p.m.

*Inspired by the work of American contemporary artist Cindy Sherman, featured in the DMA’s current special exhibition Cindy Sherman, Music & Masterpieces in May will feature award-winning soprano soloist Angela Turner Wilson accompanied by Shields-Collins Bray, Principal Keyboardist for the Fort Worth Symphony. American Anthem will include selections by Ned Rorem, Libby Larson, Jake Heggie, and Gene Scheer. Following the performance, DMA staff will lead a tour of the exhibition.

Museum Directors in Conversation

May 4, 2013; 3:00 p.m. 
Neil MacGregor, Director of the British Museum, and Maxwell L. Anderson, The Eugene McDermott Director of the Dallas Museum of Art, will discuss current trends in museums and best collecting practices for museums, and share insights into the life of a museum director.

*The exhibition features more than 120 objects exploring the human form through exquisite artworks exclusively from the British Museum’s famed collection of Greek and Roman sculpture. The exhibition will be on view through October 6.

Urban Armor: Just for Tweens and Teens!

*Meet. Relate. Investigate. Join us for a tweens and teens only workshop where we take a closer look at the Museum’s collection and then have the chance to create original works of art using advanced techniques in the Tech Lab.

Alternate Identities with Martin Delabano

May 5, 2013; 1:00-3:00 p.m.

*Special guest artist Martin Delabano will talk about his work Family Portrait 1963, currently on display in the Center for Creative Connections. He will then guide participants in creating self-portraits in human or animal form using a variety of found materials.
