I’ve become a bit of a fickle fan when it comes to American Idol. I usually watch the first few episodes so angelic voices can tug at my heartstrings while overconfident screechers can make me feel better about my karaoke rendition of “Firework.” Then I drop off while they weed out the mediocre people, returning just to get a feel for the final two, form an opinion, and express it via Twitter. But thanks to the new additions to the judging panel, my viewing habits are about to change. Like when Britney Spears joined the X Factor. Hopes of a catfight between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey (more of a cougarfight in her case) are worth watching for.
American Idol returns to FOX with a special two-night premiere on Wednesday, January 16 and Thursday, January 17. But for those of you who can’t wait to see the new, more colorful judges’ panel, NorthPark will be showing the premiere on Wednesday, January 9 at 6:30 pm, after which Ryan Seacrest, Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban will be participating in a live, nationwide, interactive Q&A with 11 select cities.
Here’s to hoping the new American Idol doesn’t become the live train wreck that the X Factor did this season. As long as the keep Khloe Kardashian far far away, I think we should be in the clear.
