Some Dallas Super Bowl Parties We Think Sound Cool

Posted by    |    January 30th, 2013 at 4:16 pm

super bowl dallasI’m not going to pretend that the two things that excite me most about Sunday’s Super Bowl aren’t the commercial breaks and the possibility of a Destiny’s Child reunion. But I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’ll watch pretty much anything at a watching party. Because really, what’s the point of watching anything if there’s no one next to you to make comments with? None. Exactly.

Here are some Dallas bars and restaurants we think sound like the perfect place to sit with friends, drink some beer, and make comments about the Super Bowl – and Beyonces legs.

Specialty Arm Acquires North American Rights and Select Major International Territories

Film to be Scheduled for Summer 2013

PARK CITY, UT January 22, 2013 – Fox Searchlight Pictures Presidents Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula announced today that the company has acquired rights to North America as well as most major territories to the heartfelt comedy THE WAY, WAY BACK.  Directed and written by Academy Award® winners Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, THE WAY, WAY BACK stars Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Sam Rockwell, Allison Janney, Maya Rudolph, AnnaSophia Robb, Amanda Peet and Liam James.

The film was produced by Kevin J. Walsh of The Walsh Company and Tom Rice of Sycamore Pictures, and executive produced by Sycamore’s Ben Nearn and George Parra, OddLot Entertainment’s Gigi Pritzker, Faxon, and Rash. OddLot Entertainment and Sycamore Pictures co-financed the project.

The film is scheduled to be released in Summer, 2013.

“Nat and Jim have crafted a uproarious coming of age story and it is great to be reunited with them,” said Gilula and Utley.  “The amazingly pitch perfect cast never misses a beat and was well deserving of the standing ovation the film received yesterday.”

“This is a very personal film and it’s been a long journey. We are so overwhelmed by the response it received at Sundance and are beyond delighted that it’s found a home with our family at Fox Searchlight,” said Faxon and Rash

“We are all elated that a vibrant company like Fox Searchlight shares our enthusiasm for the film and faith in Jim and Nat as writers, directors and storytellers,” said Rice and Walsh.

THE WAY, WAY BACK is the funny and poignant coming of age story of 14-year-old Duncan’s (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter, Steph (Zoe Levin).

Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Sam Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up to and begins to finally find his place in the world – all during a summer he will never forget.

The deal was brokered by Fox Searchlight’s Executive Vice President of Worldwide Acquisitions Tony Safford, Senior Vice President of Business Affairs Megan O’Brien and Vice President of Acquisitions & Co-Productions Ray Strache.  Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and WME Global negotiated the deal with Craig Emanuel on behalf of the financiers.

Sierra / Affinity is handling international sales for the project for territories outside those acquired by Fox Searchlight Pictures.

Fox Searchlight Pictures is a specialty film company that both finances and acquires motion pictures.  It has its own marketing and distribution operations, and its films are distributed internationally by Twentieth Century Fox.  Fox Searchlight Pictures is a unit of Fox Filmed Entertainment, a unit of Fox Entertainment Group.

“The Last Stand” Movie Review: Is Arnold Back?

Posted by    |    January 24th, 2013 at 10:36 am

After taking off several years from acting to pursue a career in politics, Arnold Schwarzenegger once again stars in a feature film, The Last Stand, along with Johnny Knoxville, Forest Whitaker, Luis Guzman, and Peter Stormare.  Aside from minor roles in The Expendables and The Expendables 2, The Last Stand is Schwarzenegger’s first film since being the Governor of California.  Although his character acknowledges his age in the film and plays up his “experienced” role, Schwarzenegger is a much older person, and it definitely shows.  However, even at the age of 65, the Govenator still kicks ass in The Last Stand as if he had never stopped doing action films.

Schwarzenegger plays the role of Ray Owens, a sheriff of a small border town, who has recently left the LAPD narcotics division for a more quiet life in Sommerton Junction.  When a Mexican drug lord escapes police custody and heads for the border, he sets his sights on this unlikely, small, peaceful town as his crossing point into Mexico, leaving the FBI in the dust and no choice but for Sheriff Owens and company to try and stop him.  The Last Stand shows what a small group of people can do with a little bit of experience, the right motivation, and no choice but to defend their town from crime and destruction. Ty Segall at Club Dada 1.26.13

Posted by    |    January 16th, 2013 at 12:06 pm

When: Saturday, January 26 ty segall

Where: Club Dada

Tickets: $10-13

Listening to Ty Segall is like listening to a collage of all the great rockers. The Laguna Beach native has evolved from the White Stripes-esque raw, garage band rock as the lead singer of the Epsilons to a sweeter, softer rock (late Beatles-esque) in his more recent solo albums. 2012 was a year for making several “Best Of” lists, getting great press, and performing on Fallon and Conan (a surefire mark of success in my book). Now Segall continues to take on the lo-fi music world by touring in support of his newest album, Twins, available on Drag City.

Don’t miss his upcoming show at Club Dada on Saturday, January 26 and download the Twins digital promo on Drag City.
